The gold dress the little white haired girl was wearing, contained lead. In olden times, to make the color gold or heavily pigmented colors(like green or purple) the dye used dangerous chemicals that were toxic to humans. The MC spoke about it to put a wedge between her father and mistress(the pregnant lady), to make it seem like the mistress is trying to unalive her own child. Hopes this helps!

It's probably b/c the mistresses older sister was the MC's father's previous lover(who is dead). I heard a small spoiler that it's the mistresses way to screw him over b/c he technically got her older sister unalived.
