It’s because now he knows that any percentage of chance he thought he had with MC is reduced by 70% because in such a homophobic society the MC coming out and say, without hesitation, that he and the top are dating, means that the relationship is extremely serious.
Furthermore MC was very intentional with his words and expressions. He was ready to cut him off at that very moment and he knew that, he could feel that; that’s why he was shocked, because he wasn’t expecting such a strong reaction from the MC.
He thought he had a chance and MC made it clear that that was not the case and that His partner is his priority.
