a genuine question, what do you do if you’re dating and your parents get married? like from their perspective they would still want to date if they like each others right? but from an outsiders point of view…. that would be weird, no?

Realistically, it depends on the ages of the kids. I know plenty of adult children that met as adults. Began dating and through them- their parents met and also began dating. Once you reach a certain age, you tend to settle down a bit quicker. So it’s not uncommon for the parents to marry and the adult kids to still date and later marry too. It gets weird when they have been raised in the same household as step siblings (aka minors) and chose to date and marry.
I know someone this happened to! She jokes that she's her own sister-in-law and is raising a niece and nephew together iirc her mum married her father-in-law about 2 yrs after they got married
Couple different options:
1) Weigh whether you like your partner enough to keep your relationship. If you want to still be with your partner no matter what, and were dating before your parents even met each other- I’d tell them and break the parents up lmao. We were together as partners first LOL.
2) This option is for grown adults. Let’s say you and the person you’re dating are 20+ and have both moved out of your family homes and have your own lives/places. And then you find out your parents met (didn’t know yall were together) and started dating for marriage. I’d inform them that we were dating first. And if they want they can continue whatever relationship they have. The reason why it wouldn’t be as weird is because both you and your partner are grown and don’t even live in the same house as the parents. Y’all will never be raised together as siblings. You can live separately as a normal couple. (This actually is part of the story in Love Level Up. You can read it and see how it really has no affect on either relationships).
It would really only be odd if the kids are not adults and have to live under the same roof and be raised for years as siblings.
