idk if it's just me but isn't the story narrated by MC? i would say he's not a reliable narrator because MC has a personality he built for himself and he WANTS himself to act and think a certain way. He can say that he only got close for protection or whatever but we know he likes Yohan. MC acts with logic and plans ahead, but the truth could be that he actually wanted to get close to Yohan. He won't let himself be controlled by his emotions and instead came up with a different reason that "benefits" him. Also i don't really think Yohan is being desperate, they're just flirting and Yohan knows how MC is, i'm like half way sure he's enjoying the little "playing hard to get" game they're having by
