Now I know I might get some pushback but please reply because I really want to get some other opinions on this topic. First of all, I really think the author did a wonderful job showing how MINCHEOL NEVER GREW UP. We see Mincheol wants (to own) Haesoo, to the point of seeing his own friend as a threat to his relationship with her. And he’s happy when she shows “jealousy”—but what he fails to realize is that Haesoo is afraid of losing her only savior. She’s emotionally and physically dependent on him, so she’s scared that college will change him. Mincheol is arrogant in thinking that he can solve Haesoo’s problems because he loves her and is the only one who can forge a happy future for themselves. Yes, he’s naive and in puppy-love mode, but the deeper sentiment is that he thinks he can control everything about Haesoo and her circumstances. It is totally a pride thing. And EVEN NOW, he thinks that Haesoo WOULDN’T DARE to leave him. Mincheol started naive and prideful then, and he’s still naive and prideful in the present!

Money and circumstances were a problem yes but I don't think they were a driving force. It might be a good excuse but, I don't believe he EVER loved or cherish her. Sure he liked her but I think he just wanted to be a hero. He has admitted that she was pretty so he choose her, you could say he wanted to be the superman to her Lois Lane. Even now, in his own way he cares for her but, he will never put Haesoo before his own needs or feelings.

Notice what the teacher said? Arrogant men like him, when faced with the real world/problems they get crushed. That's exactly what happened, instead of taking accountability for his life. He sulks, and wallows in self pity, and blames everyone else for his misfortune. Even if he didn't use his tuition money to run away, he still would've, somehow found a way to blame Haaesoo, if his life wasn't going to the way he envisioned. The same with the cheating. Had an opportunity presented itself earlier, best believe he would have taken it too. It's not his circumstances, poverty, that "changed him. It's literally just him. Given the environment he was raised in it makes sense how he grew to crave control and I think no matter what life he ended up choosing it was always destined to end this way. With or without money. The saying goes "money doesn't change people, it exposes them , for who they truly were to begin with". Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Everybody in the comments keeps being frustrated about the fact that it's unclear wether Lily loves Hana or not and that Lily keeps being hung up about Kaoru

Even though Hana is just as hung up on Kaoru. The point of the story is that both of them are hung up about Kaoru in their own way. Hana laments the fact that she never actually took the time to know her brother as well as believing that that was a reason contributing to his death, feeling immense guilt because of it. While Lily pretends that Hana is Kaoru to keep on living a delusion and not having to confront the reality of his death.

And in the end they both find solace in grieving together for the person they had loved. And they also realize the geniune happiness they were able to find with each other after his death, deciding to run away together.

I'd like to point out that when Lily said that a particular thing that Hana did reminded her of Kaoru, it was much more to say that it is a quality she loves thus also loving it about Hana. She might not love her as much as Kaoru yet but I believe she will love her just as much if not even more than him. I wish there was a follow up to this story to explore this but alas...

This manga is actually amazing and has some deeply realistic emotional writing, I could analyze it for days aaa

God I love this manga so much.

I actually like that the backstory shows how great he was when he was younger. It’s realistic. Men become trash regardless of how well they treated you in the beginning. It also shows that he can’t let her go. He has an inferiority complex cause deep down he knows he was never able to really provide for her the way he wanted to. In the end he projected those feelings onto her to make it seem like it’s her fault when in reality he became a shitty “husband.”

Of course people will feel bad for him now. I love how people, especially women, are too easy to forgive or give excuses for men after they share how traumatic their past was. I say this because when u have a female antagonist who also had a sad past or whatever, people are never this quick to switch up if ever.
Everyone goes through stuff, but once you mistreat people and betrays them, that is on YOU and not on your PAST.
Stop being so easy on these men.

the most realistic part is how the man can act all in love while doing shit like that. MEN ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING

after all the same plot arcs the author finally allowed uka to feel her feelings... I hate everytime they just go well it's actually YOUR fault for doubting anything mmhmm and she goes omg yes my bad and she is all like smiley and shit and acts nonchalant in the worst way and then Kai shows up doing less than bare minimum and we are to go YAYYY! for the first time this one dimensional ass rival comes in tries to act like I'm above shit and then gets humbled instead of being added into the friends group and Kai realizes uka has feelings ffs. like if she fully dumped him for a while I would've been happier than I was for the short break. but it was needed, we know kai loves her and sees only her in his future he has come to imagine a stable future for himself only because uka has been such a support system for him, but he really needs to act like it. the nonchalant cool boy shit can only do you good when you actually don't care about the situation or people if so much is at stake maybe you should act like it. and also if someone tells me it's not that deep I say kindly stfu, use your critical thinking see more in art. art and storytelling has always been about provoking deep emotions whether it's the artist's intention or not.

Truthfully the only reason why I continue reading this is because it reminded me of this drama called “She was pretty” but this story is just pissing me off especially Liwo (or whatever her name is) ex friend. I understand that the friend caught feelings for the ml but it just disgusting that you would ruin your CHILDHOOD best friend life all over a boy especially when that boy was never yours to begin with. And then the ML I read a spoiler about him and bruh i just really hate him after reading that. Idc if it was an accident or not he still did it and if i were the female lead i would have dumped him. Truthfully i ship the FL with the guy that bully her and help her become “beautiful” (even though she was already beautiful) and speaking of that idk why these manga always do these cliché plot where the main lead is considered ugly just because they wear glasses or have Freckles. But once they take off their glasses or wear makeup they’re magically “beautiful” i just wanna read one manga where they continue wearing their glasses and not change themselves.

Basically, I understand why the writer has no other choice but to discontinue this- because the plot is so tangled up there is just no way of tying together al the loose ends. To clarify-

1. Takashiro ending up THE villain here is just an afterthought and was never in the original plan. Remember it was Takashiro who tampered with the reincarnation of the Zweilt guardians and of Yuki to win against the Duras... and that was with the approval of the clans. So it doesn't make any sense to know ONLY NOW that the Elders of Giou and those of the ten clans have, IN FACT, been INVOLVED IN THE EXPERIMENTS TO summon demons to earth, including LUCIFER, for the sole purpose of amassing power and influence. It doesn't make sense that the war with the Duras has been going on for 1,200 years, killing the precious guardians and other members of the clans when the ORIGINAL INTENT, according to Reiga, was just the exact opposite- not to kill the Duras but to use them to summon Lucifer. Obviously, this is just the biggest BS that's ever been created using fake memories as an excuse. Sci fi often uses fake memories to introduce revisions that would contradict the original premise on which the story rests. Again, it's being used here to do the same- but instead of creating a more interesting plot, it just creates more plot holes big enough to sink whatever logic kept this story going in the first place.

2. The only pairing that has a somewhat dynamic development was Shusei x Hotsuma- and even that was DOOMED to play THIRD WHEEL to Luka x Yuki. Obviously the writer wanted readers to know Yuki and Luka are the MAIN COUPLE- but by constantly repeating, in every chapter Luka's lines "I will stay by your side," the writer seems to be creating redundancy rather than a real romance. Even if Hotsuma seems hopelessly in love and attached to Shusei and little by little seems closer to acknowledging that embarrassing yet poignantly vulnerable part of him, the writer just has to BREAK the momentum by repetitively adding those annoying scenes where Yuki's arrival inevitably takes Hotsuma's attention from Shusei.

Love triangles are amusing- but hey, can't the writer develop the romance between and among the Zweilt guardians WITHOUT putting Yuki on a pedestal so every character has to worship her and just feel unnecessarily conflicted between her/him and their partners? And if the bond with Yuki is just the product of being "genetically" a guardian dependent on her healing powers, isn't it cruel that their desire for Yuki will always be unrequited?

To me, this unconditional bond does nothing but add needless drama to an already overused romantic plot. It's the MOST UNJUST, ILLOGICAL, and ANTI-CLIMACTIC romantic device ever invented. Why? It does nothing but make Yuki seem like a harem owner who exists to cock block every ship by being EVERYONE's SUBCONSCIOUS LOVE INTEREST. It's painful to see Hotsuma and the other guardians swaying and faltering- one moment they're so in love with their partners- the next moment, they're pining for Yuki.

And all the while, we know that Yuki is exclusively Luka's with NO COMPETITION at all.

I love Hotsuma and Shusei's dynamic and only managed to read this far because they seem to be the only pair with depth and elegance. They seem to be the only ones capable of struggling with and thinking through their emotions while the rest are too busy spouting cringe confessions to create the perfect, romantic moment. Their conversations don't sound forced or overdramatic. I often wished Shusei and Hotsuma would be more straightforward and selfish, instead of always trying to find a balance between their loyalty to each other and their commitment to Yuki. But I guess that's also charming in its own way- even when Yuki's presence is always being used as a distraction for Hotsuma.

3. If there's anything good about this story- it's certainly NOT in the direction of moving Yuki and Luka's romance forward. Basically, it doesn't even seem to be their story at all. Beyond Yuki's being reborn as a man rather than as a woman, there's absolutely NOTHING ORIGINAL to this romance. I even question their status as protagonists since the story actually revolves around the Zweilts and their neverending battles- their short lives, their tampered reincarnations, and their internal struggle to be exclusive to their partners while being unconditionally dedicated to Yuki as their master. They are all LOVERS IN A LEASH. I'm just glad that the writer gave Hotsuma and Shusei enough chances to be alone with each other to sort out their feelings.

Rather than Luka and Yuki's stilted conversations, it's the relationship between the guardians and their partners that's truly worth calling "romantic" in this entire manga. And Hotsuma pointing to his heart, saying he knows he would "go get Shusei" no matter where he goes "because you're home is here" (in his heart) is just ABSOLUTELY priceless- because we realize, at this point, that he's come a long way... that far from being just another immature brat with self-denial issues, Hotsuma must have a heart and a will strong enough to choose Shusei over everyone else- everyone including Yuki who is indelibly stamped in the heart and soul of every guardian that's ever lived.

I hate him. Even as we get a better view into his background and we're supposed to start liking him more, I still hate him. Because despite everything he still is toxic. Wdym no matter what he did, he still had her? So convinced she would never leave him, no matter what! Talk about taking someone for granted! Wdym "who else besides me would look at someone like you?" Good guys who are really in love tell their girls they are so damned lucky to have them, not the other way around. I'm just so angry at him! I hope she moves out before he can get to visit her again. Although I still dream of him walking in on her while she's getting busy with Tae-Ha. He deserves at least that much suffering. At least! At this point I don't even care why he took that loan, if he was pressured by circumstances or not. It's not that relevant anymore, compared to the way he treated her in the recent years, while she worked her ass out to help pay for it and pay for his nice clothes and perfume and shit, never usingoneubon herself, even though he constantly shamed her for not being more stilish. The odacity! She placed herself way lower than second place and he said hurtful things to her and treated he as anything but the person he supposedly loved - which means he does not love her, not really.

taeha has the character of a seven year-old obsessing over his candy. while mincheol has the character of a middle-aged loser. yeah you can say mincheol has more character or should we say character regression.. because he was a good guy BEFORE... but life happening doesn't justify him cheating and wanting to feel superior by hurting the woman who literally stood by his bullsh*t. watching his downfall is satisfying but i don't need his redemption. there is none.

There were red flags all over him back then already. He liked her because she was broken and pretty. Predators go after her kind. He wanted someone he could tie and always have below himself. The signs were all there... His whole mindset is based on low self esteem, that's why he only got worse and worse. He saw himself in a bad place, he saw her in a worse one and that made him feel not so low. Afterwards he kept pushing her down so she'd depend on him, she was perfect because she was already isolated and alone. That's how that kind of people work. They push a little, see themselves get away, they push a little more... They can't control their circumstances so they look for someone they can control. It makes them feel important. Such low self esteem is actually sad, but never an excuse for someone to break someone else down in order to feel it less.

Oh no, the 'Mincheol is a character with depth' bootlickers are at it again. It's true the only entertainment in this manhwa is to see his regret arc and suffering, but looks like the author's way of selling a cheater is working really well.
A man who manipulated those around him and steps on women and blames everything on the women around him - oh no what a rare specimen of a deep character - bro ought to be worshipped. If you think a cheater who gave up at 25 has depth, that talks more about you.
