It might be the translation but the dialogue felt so opaque to me. I don't mind a slow burn but these two were too much in their heads the whole time, so it felt more like a philosophical exploration of love rather than a love story. It's a pity because they're both wildly attractive and the kissing scenes were quite good.

I shoulda realized when the scanlator was getting preemptively defensive. Shu is 'waiting' for Maki but doesn't communicate this at all. Just refuses to sleep with Maki while forgetting he used to casually insult his exes and accept mouth favors from male friends right in front of Maki. So of course Maki is confused/ insecure. And Shu failed to protect friends that SA'd Maki not once, but twice and THAT'S the catalyst that pushes him to be intimate with Maki? No amount of violent retribution and post grape aftercare is gonna redeem Shu. And they have no chemistry.

Actually, when this stuff is included and as graphically as it was it IS because it’s the authors fetish and the manga is for that kind of audience. I’ve learned that over time bc I was like why does this happen so much in Japanese manga?? Then I looked into the artists and have seen authors literally say they included it as fanservice and enjoyed drawing it. I think non Japanese audiences fail to realize the extent to Japanese culture around fiction and porn. I mean a mainstream anime for little girls that aired on tv had a literal elementary schooler dating an adult male teacher bc that is the extent to which they believe anything goes in fiction. That anime? Cardcaptor Sakura. Their reasoning is little girls get crushes on their teacher so it’s fanservice for kids. 1. Kids do not need fanservice like that. 2. It so unsafe bc some kid seeing that has it normalized for them and it opens them up to be easily abused by adults. That kind of thing would never be allowed to air on tv for kids in most countries. Much less be at all published.
One of those webtoons where everything gets thrown at MC (traumatic home life, persecuted at work plus sexual harrassment/ assault in between) and it's supposed to replace character/plot development. And Seo just takes it. Kwon knows how much he's suffering but buys useless shit (like the painting) and adds to said suffering instead of lessening it (like after the SA). There are serial killer yanderes that treat their victims better.
