And also he didn't just "ditch" mayama for a new guy in HS, because of miscommunication he thought Mayama ghosted him...Mayama thought that too, the only reason Mayama didn't get someone else is because he had fully developed crush on Yumi, but yumi didn't HAVE to reciprocate.
Yumi had the most amount of growth in this entire manga. He thought he would be tied to Kan, but left Kan as soon as Kan broke up with him. He wasn't clinging onto the relationship like before and he left and started opening himself up to the idea of being loved/loving again.
