You can really start seeing the increasing desperation with incheol, he’s completely losing his boundaries to get to what he needs. This isn’t about satisfying peace (yeah imma call him that), but rather it’s still self-interested in the name of his work. Really shows how dirty maintaining power can be.

I severely underestimated this story. I was put off by the first couple chapters. Felt like the usual yaoi rapeslop so I dropped it. Decided to give it a second chance. As I read it completely, the authors grasp on psychological horror is exceptional. I’ve never felt so unsettled and uncomfortable. That’s what it’s supposed to be.
Seongmin’s use in this story was absolutely amazing. Me as a readers felt he was a glimpse of hope, because despite everything, he didn’t let up. He felt like a solid character, yeah sure, I knew something was bound to happen but not exactly what or when. The author did just that. Didn’t see it coming, something did happen, and we don’t know what. That final conversation, Seongmin disappearing even though we know that night he reassured Yuwon he’d see him tomorrow, and then being hit with this genius form of basically scrolling down Yuwon’s messages to him was so fucking eerie, and you could feel the dread as weeks passed by. Beautiful execution. From that point on my perspective on this story completely changed. The chapters that followed with the new coworker, the welcome party, and the phone call. Absolutely insane, the build up to the realization had me on the edge of my seat, I never thought someone could redeem their story by this much.
There’s something deeply sad about their relationship. The way they co-exist is so intimate in a melancholic way. It’s really indescribable, because they’re not yearning or desiring each other, but rather it’s like they’re seeking safety and security. That chapter where they just space out into each other and never address it, because they don’t have to. There’s no sexual or romantic desire. It feels more like an affirmation, an acceptance of taking on each other’s burden which is so selfless of them bc they’re already going through their own shit.
Personally, my theory is that they separate unwillingly due to Ilwoo. He’s going to do something out of impulse and carelessness that’s going to result in him running away again.
The way Baekhee narrates this story feels like it’s centered around Ilwoo, even the title is just his name. It’s not that Baekhee sees that Ilwoo is worth more telling about than himself, no, because he’s reminiscing about him in his life. Because Ilwoo was the good part of his life worth telling even if they spent their time with each other painfully. Why he’s telling the story this way, idk
What’s holding back Ian is himself and he needs to get it together and leave, Jo or not doesn’t matter he needs to wrap it tf up or else he’ll always hurt the ppl around him
i can’t believe i spent weeks reading for a gut fucking open ended finale
