I dropped the novel sometime back but I still keep up with the manga...hoping it would be less taxing to read---nope.
Honestly speaking...the writing is very muddy, and uninteresting...even though it has many good qualities to it. But since the story has no clear goal or identity, it loses out to simpler stories that have stronger, more cohesive themes. All political intrigue, not much of a plot. What a shame.

The story isn't completely clear but I do believe it has a goal. She left the academy with the goal of making her fief the best, and helping the citizens. So she's doing whatever she needs to do to get there. That sort of goal has no real end game hence why everything can seem a bit unfinished and aimless. And why there's so much political intrigue

That's really more of the character's goal, and not a story goal imo...(there's really no purpose other than to be detailed). Other stories like..Honzuki, or Log Horizon, or 12 Kingdoms have a ton of political intrigue with a really solid general direction, some even without the need for an end goal (in the case of 12K).
At the end of the day, all I can say is that... if 6 months from now no one remembers what the heck the story was about, or can even recall a meaningful part of the story...is that not indicative of it being poorly written? It's kind of like cooking. Putting in a ton of the best ingredients isn't going to make a delicious meal if there's no vision of the menu.

Oh sorry maybe I didn't make it clear enough but I definitely believe it was badly written. Although the characters are nice it seems the author didn't really have a goal in mind for the story... Which is a shame because I actually liked this story... I've heard of log horizon but I didn't think it was heavy on the intrigue I might take a look at it then...
Oddly enough, I've noticed a lot of light novels have a good premise but fail because the author is inexperienced or doesn't know how to deliver the theme properly. It's not a bad thing but I think they need to slow down and do some research bc it disappointing that so many things I read just end weirdly.
That being said I won't drop this for now. It hasn't reached the point where its abysmal (for me anyway) and I want to see how it ends.
o<-< This manga fills me with a sense of seething rage, but I'm still barely hanging on just to see the sheer justice when she dumps his sorry ass---
