this would've been a better series if it focused on the corruption of Soveishu rather than a former SLAVE turned concubine. :( In that context, Rashta doesn't really have any other options, and is already shamed.
Honestly, yes, you can have villainous characters with rough backgrounds, and it kind of comes of as strangely classicist? to me, personally. Navier feels a bit Mary Sue.
I do enjoy these storylines, but it sometimes feels weird to me, and the art & clothing is stunning. I just kind of grew out of it. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
I think it focuses on the corruption of soveishu its just badly portrayed. The whole meaning behind this is that rashta was just a victim and got corrupted by all these high end society things which was soveushies fault, he brought her into this and he turned a blind eye to things that should not have been avoided. In the end the whole point is that sovishu is at fault, rn he is just paying the price of his sins tho it coukd have been shown and explained much better
I did really enjoy lookism a lot, and the original plot was pretty interesting. I drew a lot of parallels to Park myself, but it's whatever. I really enjoyed reading, and was interested to see the parallels in two separate lives.
But like...at some point..the side missions have to stop..and I'm sorry, but I did genuinely like seeing the original Park try to improve himself, and seeing the parallels between his two different lives.
I think that the author genuinely lost the plot after the "cult" episode, because it just launches into various stories of different people after that, which I don't mind, but that's not what the story's about. It's really disappointing to see such a strong idea in concept fall off and become a caricature of itself.
╥﹏╥
yes this manhwa is mainly ppl being freaky but the PLOT IS SO SO INTERESTING </3
the religious tones, the names, personality, clothing for each character :/// the art is so freking good, I kinda just skip the smut, although it's disappointing the mc is so sexualized :(
(edit)
I take back everything nice I said if the incest is canon I SWEAR TO GOD.
-basically just fetishizing indigenous men as "uncivilized and barbaric"
-mixing multiple cultural clothing
-main character is small, petite, delicate, with a small frame ..dude fuck this lmao
It's a fantasy setting, not a real world depiction. The tribes in the story don't exist, just like the "bloodthirsty Dukes of the North" or any other fictional group created to serve a theme or aesthetic. In fantasy, everything is exaggerated or idealized to fit the story's tone and worldbuilding. It's not meant to represent or comment on any real culture, but to explore an imagined one.
This is another reiteration of the horrible "ugly duckling" stereotype with some mixed body positivity messages-"ugly" person is treated badly until suddenly becoming beautiful after makeover and gets treated better as a result.
Seven years ago, way back when this webtoon was first published, as a teenager I really liked it. I was in (and still am) into nerdy stuff like niche comics and games, and I, too, was horrified of what others thought. Looking back at this manga I can't take it seriously because of the not-so-great themes being tell to the audience. I feel pity for our main character's arrested development, and honestly, the decent art and cliche romance plot line doesn't really cover up what the author is trying to convey.
brb on my way to read lookism instead.

my first introduction to webtoons and I loved it so much lololol
