I wouldn't say she has years of neglect and bad parenting. She wasn't in a bad environment, yes the guy was using her but she didn't know that. There was no bad parenting because there wasn't any parenting. The fact she is so innocent and kind is evident that her environment was decent. She probably was happy growing up, it wasn't until she grew of age that she expressed intense lonliness
that doggy dude is definitely not an example of a loving parent. When she wasn’t doing as good as the princess he would stock her up on work that she didn’t understand, saying she needed to be up to par or something even though she was probably above average for her age. She wasn’t exposed to friends or peers until she met the princess because he was hiding her until he could use her to get to the princess/emperor. I doubt they had any happy family moments either. He fills in more of that manager/supervisor role rather than a doting and loving parent role.
She grew up thinking she was lacking and that she needed to appeal to the princess. Not to mention she has to take everything as is and not complain. Surprised she still has this amount of confidence. You learn not to trust people from personal experience but since Jeanette hadn’t met anyone at all, she didn’t learn any life lessons.
(She has no other friends and naturally she’d have a venting partner. Ofc it’s a little dumb she’d tell someone the emperor is sick but it’s not really her fault that she didn’t learn)
Basically, she lived a rapunzel life. All cool and fun until “wham” life hits you in the face because you were playing dolls while other people were running around with the neighborhood kids and laughing over a family dinner. Sure, her childhood wasn’t necessarily directly abusive but you can’t deny that it’s pretty shitty parenting.
