considering i call my cousin's parents aunt and uncle aka theyre related to me through one of my parents, ill pass. theres like 7 billion people in the world, why settle with someone related to you?

Maybe because they love each other? They may be related but are not sons of the same parents and its proven children of cousins dont come with health issues just because of that.

Well, it doesnt work for YOU. And if that was the case, hypothetically speaking, then what if we were blood relatives? Look, by that logic you're using then i can also say everyone in the world is related by blood/DNA and therefore nobody can fall in love, marry or whatever.

I think it's because in some places the dynamic between cousins is much more family oriented. Like for me personally my cousins are like siblings practically so it would be really creepy. And other people i know, even if they aren't close the fact that they are related is heavily focused on. So it just all depends on where you live I think, and most of these comments are probably from places where the view is like this

For me, personally it’s a big no. As in it’s not for me. Although there are cousins I don’t know so who knows but cousins I do know, hell no. But I’m live and let live. As long as percausions are taken in heterosexual relationships (if they want to have a baby, using doner sperm or eggs) then I don’t care how closely related you are as long as there’re of age and able to consent. My only discomfort comes in with a parent child combo. That’s hard. I just feel like there’re a power dynamic that’s unavoidable and unhealthy. Also maybe bc my dad molested his daughter’s and I’ve been so incredibly damaged by that, that I’m unable to be rational. But aside from that really as long as there’s no grooming or coercion and there’s no chance of an innocent child suffering the consequences, I don’t care and don’t think any of my business. A benefit of being gay and in a close familial relationship is that they don’t have to worry about inbred babies happening by accident.

Hey, my paternal great-grandparents were first cousins it happened a lot back then.

......no....scientists have proven that with first cousins there is always a risk of abnormalities/brain damage and/or mental illness when inbreeding and having a child..the only thing scientists have said is that its less of a risk than brother and sister. Statistically it has even been shown that those who end up having normal children can even put grand children at risk of retardation or birth defects... but..its only continued because of the cultural background. Other than that it is considered taboo in most other countries due to the risks.

i dont mean to be rude in any way, i just wanted to imput as i live in south africa and my brother is a doctor here. it happens often that people have children by first cousin and even rape cases where their brothers and fathers give them children. in the cases of first cousin there are many many problems with the children. Of course not all of them but more than you would think.

I think if you want to get with your cousin that’s up to you. Personally to me I wouldn’t cause I just feel uncomfterable with that but if you can more power to you. I do think the story mentioned that they were cousins a little TOO late but whatever.

Actually in my country or religion, you can marry your cousin who are NOT your first cousins. You can marry your second cousins or more distant ones. But you can't marry any cousin from your mother's side. So when people say, cousins who are married, they are actually very distant relatives so it doesn't even matter.
