I think in the boardroom they thought long and hard whether it be the hair of skin to change and chose the skin so she can keep the stereotypical japanese black hair colour. Not everything is about race, and I'm pretty sure they never intended it to become a race thing.

yeah its true they didnt intend to make it seem that way however they do still need to be careful. That was a very bad move seeing as how it can be construed but you have to keep in mind that this si a Japanese comic and it is very unlikely that they would understand the struggles of american racial tensions. That deoesn't excuse the fact that they chose to change the skin to a lighter color seeing as they also deal with the whiter= better and darker=ugly type thing but it does provide an understanding of their reasoning.

you know, even if america's issues are not everyone issues (i'm not american myself) in japan there is a huge colorism problem and they have the racist mindset that lighter = good. don't treat them like they don't understand it, japanese people aren't angels and while they aren't devils either, letting it pass just like that because "ohhh they don't understand" is really bad because you make it seem like they are stupid and dense when a lot of dark-skinned japanese people are speaking about those issues there. racism doesn't only exist in america, asian countries also deal with it so letting this pass just like this contributes to the problem. just because it's another culture doesn't mean we have to ignore it, in a lot of countries gay people are killed off because of their culture but that doesn't mean we can accept it or ignore it, nor we have to be kind with them when nowadays this issue is being spoken about in japan as well.

All I said was the author may have had another reasoning to it as they may not be aware of the what they were implying by changing her skin color. I never said to let this pass and I didn't intend to make it seem like i was calling them dumber or stupider, all i was implying is that there were two ways to the story and the right move in my opinion would be to educate the author.
Look, for me I see people as people and manga as manga. I'll ship fictional character and ignore any problems in the manga but I don't bring this kind of stuff into the physical world since it's just dumb. I've said it multiple times but we are peering into a world that we can't control. I went to a mostly black school and grew up believing that african americans and other black people are just as much human as the rest of us.
