Not exactly unpopular opinion, but like, something akin to “eat the rich” which is my radical opinion.
So, my theory is that this is an allegory of addiction or wanting something forbidden. Dennis is literally isolated with one instruction in mind (don’t trust no one), and the sheep I guess are fragments of mental capacity of how “far” he’s willing to go. Todd is basically temptation, be it drugs or even just being gay. This is out of the bonds of what he is to do but as all temptations are, Todd is attentive to him, so he takes a shot. Which turns into multiple, and this “love” is more like limerance or obsession and leads to his downfall. The killing of the sheep is him like, losing his mind, Todd leaving can be like withdrawal symptoms, and falling into the pit is basically his downfall. Idk, maybe I over analyzed it but that’s how I see it.
