I’d like to think that I have a high tolerance for stories killing likable characters for the service of a good story, but this current progression is testing even my tolerance levels. So I think I’m going to give JJK a break for a while. This latest chapter was too much even for me. I was going to be okay with all the sacrifices - even Gojo - if it meant taking Sukuna down.
But if Sukuna regains is energy and makes all the sacrifices worthless, I think that means I need to step away before the current progression completely ruins the whole manga for me.
I’m not sure where the story CAN go from here. With Gojo dead and Megumi still possessed, there’s really nothing to stop Sukuna now. Like, I would have understood if Sukuna had to go back to Yuki at the cost of Gojo having to die - as that would have put things back at a neutral field for the main cast.
But now? I can’t think of way to overcome Sukuna and deal with Kenjaku. Unless Gojo is revived in the next few chapters - or barring a REALLY BIG deus ex Machina in the final battles - I honestly think Gege wrote himself into a corner.

Ngl the last few chapters have been delivering some actual decent twists. Didn’t expect that background character from early in the arc to be an assassin.
People might be complaining about the length of this arc, but the author has been laying the groundwork for the payoffs we’re getting now since the beginning, so I am NOT complaining. Good payoffs need the groundwork to be satisfactory. And if playing FFXIV has taught me one thing, sometimes you have to wait for a couple of years for a story to deliver on its payoffs.
That said, I think we are in the climax of the egg arc. So while I do appreciate that the author took the time to build up properly for the payoffs currently happening… I also hope things are wrapped up quickly afterwards. Almost all the cards that have been hidden are coming into play, so there isn’t going to be a need to keep stringing things along in the falling action portion of the plot.
But after this I can see at least one more arc. As there are several unaddressed plot points. The Doctor’s illness is still a thing. Dyne has his past to discover. And Kouichi still needs to perfect body manipulation magic so he can take all of Caius before the story can end properly.
Very well said!! And honestly, I really want to know why the King is in a coma and has been for quite some time. And now, come to find out the Birdmen King is also in a coma.
