She did groom her and then tried to commit suicide with her. Half way to the ground, she decided to use her body to protect Shio, but Shio decided to not be with her family despite her brother clarifying that the mother gave her up because she was going to kill her abusive husband and go to jail. It was just all around messed up. Shio remained "in love" even as she got older and wanted to die
