Rather than dumb, it shows how inherently selfish his personality is. He feels some sort of twisted attachment to specific objects (and apparently people now?) which he obsesses over. I'm assuming his attachment is connected to his first impression over the object, for example he liked the specific fountain pen because it was given to his sister as a reward and not him. And now he obsesses over the teacher because of that impression he got of her standing in the rain. This guy is extremely terrifying since he latches onto the things he wants to own until death parts him from them.

I really love how Lynette built such a clever trap for Kanna. She shows up to the social gathering Kanna's at, feeds the noble ladies juicy gossip while subtly planting clues about Kanna's real identity, indirectly turns the ladies against Kanna and influences them to hunt her down together by inviting them to her new estate, trapping Kanna into joining them, hence risking her new noble identity and life in the capital.
It's so sneaky and manipulative in the best way ever. Lynette has ZERO intention of letting Kanna get away and she didn't even have to say it to her face.
