They are both pushovers. Both the FL and ML are pushovers. The difference is that she was abused and traumatized into becoming one. That fact is why people are more on her side. She has a reason.
He was, well, he could have told the father to fuck off and married his original fiancée. Or he could have at least made sure that she was taken care of physically even if he didn't behave kindly towards her. Once he became a Duke he had a lot of power. He could have at least made sure that she had decent servants around her. But no, he let the father in law do everything just to gain power. That is a different kind of weakness. The original him threw her under the bus for power, and that is a LOT to ask reader to forgive him for just because he's being attentive now.
Also, I'll ask as many times as I need to, but where is the father in law now? He is openly paying attention to his wife and the father in law has done shit. He better be gearing up to attack, cuz otherwise that meant that the ML was scared of empty threats in the last life.

She was had flashes of her father yelling at her in her flashback chapter. Telling her that she was cursed. That she was the reason her mother died. This is something she was told since she was 7 years old. So she didn't feel that she should touch her baby because she didn't want to hurt him. But she never abandoned her baby, her baby was taken. No one tried to help her get past her trauma. They just took her baby and give it to the other woman
Take deep breaths and listen to me (the deep breaths art was for myself) anyway how I'm not like a pro at this psychology stuff but this is probably how the story is trying to show it. As we know, the MC was in a ride with her mom and brother, then there was an accident and shut happened. Her mom died, her brother broke his arm or something, and because of this her dad (that little SOB) blamed her and called her a cursed child and stuff. And all that emotional trauma that people are talking about, which left a scar. During an event she meets the ML who tells her the thing he says because he feels like its a similar situation as he was currently in. Due to what he says she thinks of him as a saviour and falls in love (ig?) and tells her father to let her marry him. After much persuasion and screaming he agrees, but what the MC doesn't know is that her father made a deal with the ML to treat FL like trash in order to keep FL safe and become the Duke and stuff (I still don't know why he didn't tell her, at least even after being reborn?like WTH). Now the ML treats her like trash and when the FL gets pregnant with Elle and gives birth to him, the FL is happy but you soon see that the scar of the trauma and stuff from her child hood makes her think that she really is cursed so she tries not to carry the baby thinking it will protect the child. The he takes her away but she can't do anything because 1 she's not sure what she'll do after that probably and 2 she's probably still sacred (be it her family, or hurting her child). I think I can only type this much. Hope it helps even a little bit
