Haven't read the novel but from the prologue it sounds like she put her own desires ahead of the people's, choosing to support her lover (Prince Fritz? I think?) despite him blatantly cheating on her, having no respect for her, and apparently being corrupt enough for the male lead to want to hunt them down. She also seems to scorn those who want to help her and it's clear from the second chapter that there's a clash waiting to happened between the poor and the rich that the male lead might've got involved in.
From this info alone I'm guessing the MC fell in love with Fritz, married him, could care less about the fact she's being cheated on because uwu I'm a good person if I still love him, she succeeded a lot of her power as princess to him because she loves him and Fritz goes corrupt by catering to the rich and spurning the poor. Male lead, who seems to have the sole goal of ensuring the country's prosperity and social equality, probably led a revolution against the rich and was intent on killing the prince. However, he came upon MC first and, disgusted by her and how much of a subservient coward she is - someone who can't even lead her own people efficiently or in any respectful manner - he kills her.
That's my running theory atm but everything seems to check out from the info we've gotten so far lol
