I doubt what you're trying to say is "kids shouldn't be allowed to see harmful content" but just in case you are, let me show you why this is a double edged sword.

governments are now using it against us to try and monitor our identity online.
The parliament of the European union is going to be voting a law on the 14th of october that would, if it is passed, allow them to check the identity of any online user's private chat to "protect the children from pedophilia".
Now do you see how, while protecting children is indeed a necessity, there is no question to be asked about this, and the danger is real.

So let's summarize my thinking just in case someone wants to partake in the discussion but doesn't want to read all of that.
1 children are not getting more violent, look at the statistics of your country, it's just more shown in the media these days.
2 children know raping and killing is bad, one would be a fool to think otherwise, just think back to when you were 14, did you or did you not know raping was bad?
3 smocking and doing drugs is a public concern and is going rampant among the youth just like smocking was 100 years ago, but that does not equal to "the children are crazy because the wrong medias are corrupting them!!" the country just need to spend more time and money to educate the children
(though to be honest, it was as bad when i was a kid, it's crazy people like doing drugs at all but anyway)


So in conclusion, children do know how to differentiate fiction from reality, i was actually talking about this with a psychoanalyst 3 weeks ago, who was telling me how much of an asshole a lawyer was cause the dude kept telling her otherwise, classic cis men who think they know better than professional, but anyway (to be honest the dude was just salty about losing his case)
