Finding out Goutarou is 28 was a little... Idk, I'm 24 and I'd feel weird dating a 19 y/o personally. But it's not inherently icky or wrong, just could be questionable depending on how one feels about age gaps.
But I still enjoyed this. Goutarou is so fine like ugh...
I love characters like him that get all evily excited (idk how else to describe the expression when he goes "nice view" and "it's my honor" in 5.5) when they see their partner flustered.
This isn't my favorite of this authors works, but I just love the art style so damn much. And the characters are sweet. Goutarou getting SO excited to see Akihito's smile? That's adorable. Or him not wanting to sleep with Akihito right away and constantly reminding him that it's okay to be lonely and crave physical touch, but it doesn't have to be sexual. Neither of them are perfect people but I think they're really sweet and really care about each other and that's great.

And just to preach to the choir, Jun (the uncle) is so damn fine fr

agreed! it’d be a little odd, especially thinking about how my partner wouldn’t even be able to drink? not necessarily TO drink, but rather to have an “adult” status in society LOL

This is like the only manga I've purchased physically bc I wanted the bonus chapter before it was posted here lol
But AHGJH I just reread the bonus bc I saw it was uploaded here and ahhhhhh I love them so much. Takara is so damn pretty and Taishin's damn sparkly eyes are so?????? I love characters like Takara who become more affectionate over time and seem really aloof but fall deeply in love. I love everything about this, this author is always top tier

DUDE? Good fathers make me want to cry. As everyone said, it's totally valid for Kota to be bratty since he's just a lil guy, but ALSO! I love that Aoto is so good at mediating. Since Kota and Take are both hot-heads he can slow them down and talk things out.
I really appreciate that Kota was allowed to be grumpy, that there was a reason he was upset and they could talk to him and resolve it and show they love him.
And I love how at different times, each of them noticed why Kota was upset. Take's mom noticed he had a fever, Aoto noticed that they just dismissed him instead of explaining things, and Take realized how his words might hurt Kota.
ALSO!!! Adults apologizing to children!!!!! So important and they do it so well in this. This is just such a perfect little family cause they're not totally perfect.
But seriously, adults apologizing is so nice to see bc my parents rarely apologized to me (but always made me apologize.) It's nice to see they're raising Kota by example.
And the boy being sad not bc having two dads is weird but bc he's jealous?? I'll cry. I loved how they reassure Kota that his family might not look like everyone else's but they're a family no matter what :""""")

I always love the depth of this authors characters. Take is a bit of a mess and doesn't fully know how to raise his kid BUT he's SO worried about being a good dad that you can tell he's inherently a good father :""") all the times he feels remorseful or inadequate :( but Aoto reassuring him??? Ugh I love partnerships.
(Also, fire smut. I will not elaborate.)

Don't write 300 wordcount comments on everything I read challenge (impossible)

ebbyemmy January 23, 2025 11:39 pm

Dude, the simultaneous combination of him crying and saying he's sorry and then convincing himself/thinking he likes it is so???? I'll actually cry, this shit HURTS. I did see someone saying a lot of people question the morality of even drawing this, which is fair. It's a bit of a grotesquely detailed depiction of trauma. But also, I think that shows how much a victim's mind can be screwed with. How they struggle to separate the pain and pleasure and the fucked up complicated relationship. Jesus.
Like, he ONLY has this man in his life. That was his kind father figure. It's so gross and sad and no one deserves this shit.
Like, how does a kid reconcile abuse like that? Especially being told "you were thrown away." Like, it somehow twists his mind even more because now, the ONLY person he had (bc the creep ensured it was like that) suddenly is gone and you're told you weren't wanted by them?

TL;DR, this fucks someone up for life and the story is way too real but this authors works are very thought-provoking

ebbyemmy January 23, 2025 11:16 pm

Dude?? This is so good. Specifically Chiaki and Banzai considering there wasn't dubcon there (the bar is so low). But I love their character designs. idk Chiaki isn't the usual type I see in manga since he looks a lot like a person I would see irl (the straightness of his hair and his backwards hat lmao). But also, Banzai is fine af and Chiaki is so cute

The poetic ass title of the first story got me, though. I really love the translator's note on why it's called Rakka. Like, things that are deliberately ugly and unpoetic circle around to being poetic as hell. And the question if the seed of the fallen fruit will even sprout. That's some good shit.

Second couple is how I ended up here since I saw Mitsuka/Nectar was a sequel, but damn, the consent is ... :| which is a bummer cause I love their character design and I'm a sucker for the "you've ruined everyone else for me cause now I only want you" trope.

Idk, these were all really engaging shorts for various reasons. I love manga where you can see that the artist puts some artistry into the writing too

Also, Chiaki's so real for being a professional cleaner and cook but not cooking or cleaning for himself. "It doesn't work when I don't have someone to clean for" is so relatable.

ebbyemmy November 3, 2024 6:32 pm

Character design is AMAZING like DAMN! I can't praise it enough, I'm obsessed.
Wakashio and Yakaze are so damn sweet :"( this made me CRY but I'm so happy they got such a beautiful happy ending. I think this balanced the traumatic shit and the main relationship well because it's one of those rare ones where it's not the main couple traumatizing each other and instead they're a source of comfort and solace which I love.
The extra chapter where it was from Yakaze's POV and how they met :(( so sweet. And how bright and shiny their eyes were AHH I love them!!
When Yakaze saw how brightly Wakashio smiles when he's not weighed down by his family :( OUCHIE.
This is a really, really beautiful story.

Omg.... I love this authors stuff and the art and I'm such a sucker for reincarnated reunited lovers :"") but also the angst will wreck me so hard....

ebbyemmy November 1, 2024 8:07 pm

PLEASE I was already crying because it was so sweet and beautiful but they decided to wreck me with that ending they're both so beautiful. How can something so short make me so damn emotional
Every damn chapter got me crying, seriously, I can't with emotional lonely shit like this it hits too hard.
So beautiful :( the revelation that Haku was the one to break his other half is so damn sad. And when Izuki thought "why? Why are you smiling like that? Like you've already given up on everything?" But also, when Haku tied his shoe and Izuki looked for him and Haku felt like "oh wow, there's someone who will call my name" that HURT! The perpetually lonely person struggle of feeling like no one will notice if you're gone... This author does a FANTASTIC job of bringing together two characters that are suffering in their own ways and connecting them and does an even better job of making me sob

    ebbyemmy November 1, 2024 8:08 pm

Also the art is so I'm beautiful and the atmosphere of it all... The wistful feeling of Haku... Gosh I love this dearly

ebbyemmy October 27, 2024 3:31 am

The art is SO damn pretty and I'm obsessed with the balance of sweetness and kinkiness like those are NOT mutually exclusive! Love. Can't wait for more, this shit goes crazy

ebbyemmy October 19, 2024 5:20 pm

PLEASE this is SO beautiful. I got stressed so much because AHH religious plots always hit so close to home for me. But this was just such a beautiful story. The art, the setting, the characters, everything. It genuinely felt so warm. Listening to Red River Valley while reading the part where it was playing made me tear up!!! "We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile, for they say you are taking the sunshine that has brightened our path for awhile" is SO??? Like, Theo is so like the sunshine. It really is sad that he can't see his family again :( I especially feel bad for Chloe :(
I loved everything about this. Enough angst to make me tear up but more beauty than anything to leave me feeling warm and happy. I love Oz and Theo, they're just so lovely I'm so happy for them
.
.
.
Spoiler:
One thing I'm a little confused on is Danny. He's a very interesting character, cause I can't tell what type of love he has for Theo. I know he just doesn't want to lose someone again after Gene, but also him promising Theo that he'd marry Chloe so that Theo wouldn't leave feels more like he loves Theo more than Chloe? And the whole thing with him kissing Oz... What, he's wondering why both Gene and Theo would be with men? Or what? It didn't feel like it didn't fit or it didn't make sense, but it just made me curious to know more.

I'm so sorry I don't really have any manga since it's moreso something I see in western media (╥﹏╥) (or occasionally Thai dramas like Shadow or the upcoming Ticket to Heaven).

I SWEAR I've read some manga that involve religion but can't think of them :") there's "Our Dreams at Dusk" which I don't remember if it touches on religion but has a lot of introspective/societal depth.

Another queer religious story I've read is Autoboyography (queer in a Mormon town)
Also not exactly religion-centric but The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune is fantastic and similar to Our Dreams at Dusk has a lot of introspective/societal depth

Sorry I couldn't offer more ( T﹏T ) hopefully someone will see this and give us recommendations cause I also need more

that’s okay, no problem! i appreciate these recs. do you have any general sort of recs for media w/ strong religious themes (including the western media you mentioned)? i love queer + religious stuff, but if it’s not queer that’s okay too. :3

The ones I mentioned are fun :3 I also really like Midnight Mass is good if you're alright with sort of horror themed religious series.
The Shack is also a good movie (heavy themes, but I think handled well, at least last I watched it).

I haven't watched this in some time, so can't still guarantee that it's good lol but I enjoyed The Falls (2012. LDS missionaries fall in love on their mission)

I can't think of many others at the moment :")
Beyond longer media, I also just like the aesthetic a lot so I love music videos like (not western, but...) Enhypen's Sacrifice (Eat Me Up), Oh My God by G-Idle, Halazia by Ateez, Eternally by TXT, Last Parade by BamBam.
And then ofc there's Lil Nas X Montero.

I had the same impression of Danny. I felt bad for Chloe because I didn't feel he loved her as much as she loved him. He had all the happiness he needed in her but he was still looking for it elsewhere. She's so sweet and selfless too I felt she deserved better.
