this could've been a stand alone story without romance. i'm more interested with the relationship of her and helene, and the layton duchy in general. plus, the ML kinda sucks. wdym ur doing all that stuff for a woman who can barely recognize you? if the readers doesn't know how a formulaic romance story ends, he would end up a freaking creep. weak entrance for an ML, weak motivations for a love interest too. HE HAD NOT EVEN SPOKEN TO HER DURING THEIR ACADEMY DAYS, and he expects her to remember him? PATHETIC.
ALSO im pissed off with the recent translations for Nata's pronouns. how hard is it to not use they/them??? they were very clear that they are not defined as man nor woman, and here comes the translation using he/him. so damn disappointing.
the other aspects of this story is good, even the emperor's covetous nature is appealing. i wish they'd explore more about politics and family dynamics, but alas, we all know how this will end. i just hope the journey won't be boring.

I feel like the author intentionally made ML the one who has this very romantic mindset, ergo yearning for his first love and what not, to contrast FL who's more calculative, professional and a realist. But as you said in the end he just comes off as creepy bc of how awkwardly he was introduced. I really wish the author would've just let them have a true fateful meeting instead of a ML who trails behind FL like a socially inept redditor.

the situation is funny and all but why isn't Zhen Hao not even concerned whether he's spending too much time with Mr. Shen and not his wife... I mean I get that this is supposed to be a BL story but can they at least resolved that problem before doing lovey stuff... I can't enjoy the plot cuz i keep thinking how this is basically emotional cheating... even if Zhen Hao and Fu don't have deep feelings with one another they are still married by law. I just generally feel bad for Fu. She basically has no screen time AND her husband like her father (in a romantic sense) AND she's still kept in the dark about her biological father's death
