There are layers here, while the experience is more realistic, these events are all psychological and it is giving my education a real exercise.
I think if it were me I would leave, even though it would take some recovery and time.
There is no curing that lvl of trauma.
The best thing you can do is let them learn their karma, the author has a good way of using some basic techniques of psychology to entice the reader.
How ever it's a shit situation all around and I have to wonder if it is healthy for the writer to habor such thoughts for long periods of time.
