I swear the worst profession to have as a manhwa reader is being a lawyer.... Almost all of the "trial" scenes in manhwa are done so ignorantly that I cringe, and I'm not even a lawyer. I just have to take a deep breath and remember it is fantasy.... It is fantasy...

Try reading leave the divorce to professional lawyer Asher

There are a few series that center around law, This is the Law I've heard good things about. Honestly I'm actually not much of a court case fan to begin with, but some of these high key fantasy series, it makes more sense for them to be wrongfully accused, escape, and find truth to sway the public, then to have a very modernesk court case in a fantasy setting.

Kinda takes me out of the fantasy to begin with, not even mentioning how weak many of the arguments end up being. So it's not realistic from a modern viewpoint and it's very modern approach for a historical fantasy viewpoint, it just feels off most of the time. Some series can make it work with the world they have created, already establishing a lot of modern viewpoints into the politics of the world. But I also just love it when the author goes the extra mile to be realistic to the fantasy time period. Like in this situation, there's no way for MC to escape this. Everyone believes he did it, the one who actually planted the evidence is royalty, historically MC is screwed. So it felt weak and out of place how he escaped using modern but also incorrectly used court room situation.

But also there's a lot of stories I struggle with reading stories in general where the MC isekais to another world, that is "historical" and "backwards" but also somehow has modern industrialism to have things like cotton candy machines that MC develops, and MC having mechanical knowledge not befitting of their life on earth. (Villainess's stationary shop, I'm looking at you , and all the others like you). Like stick to the fantasy, or explain the world to make this make sense. Some do make it make sense, and I like those, but I really struggle when MC brings modern things into an apparently historical fantasy world out of no where. And it feels like the lawyer situation in a monarchy (not a constitutional monarchy, or at least none of these fantasy worlds have claimed to have a constitutional monarchy). Just so out of place... Most the time I can ignore it if the rest of the story is good but it just throws me out of the world for a sec

I’m so glad you said this. I’m pre-law and it’s so frustrating! Especially when it comes to valid contracts. That’s probably the most common one.

Lmao I didn't even think about that. I was in mock trial so ik a bit about how US trials are supposed to happen. But I haven't actually researched contracts and what constitutes a contract. But also historically, I feel like many manhwa contracts aren't that far off, the only problem is that I don't think anyone would really enforce the contract if someone broke it. Idk how people delt with that.

    Nnnnoperson December 5, 2024 6:35 am

Nah babe. I beg to differ. Maybe most manhwa fall out when trying to fit in the ‘law’ theme but I promise u, NO MORAL did a good job at that. I’ve never been invested in a law related manhwa like that mf.

Wait omg that was a big “American moment” for me it most likely does work differently in Japan, China, etc. I think the main one that frustrates me is when some poor bottom gets their parents debt and loan sharks force them to pay(obviously this is illegal) especially when they never knew the parent because you would need to agree to take on the responsibility. Or when someone says “you promised to do x,y, z” and it’s over $10,000 legally it requires a written contract. Obviously if mangas applied too much logic they would have no plot though lol.

XD not surprised that a lawyer related series did court room drama justice. There's a few solid ones out there that I've heard about. I'm more complaining about the situations like these in fantasy settings, most of them don't fit well. But yes, there are definitely series out there that work solid

100% about that no plot part. Same with misunderstandings. But also series that rely completely on a misunderstanding for plot or a bad illegal contract don't really have much plot then do they? Anyways the debt thing never bothered me cuz MC is naive anyways, and loan sharks inherently are in the legal gray area, and are often pushed (in manhwa at least) to do illegal stuff and go out of their way to get their money back by harassment and such. Just cuz it's not legal doesn't mean the loan sharks can't convince the vulnerable MC that what they are doing is legal, and that MC can't ask for actual legal help or anything. Also many loan sharks in manhwa are tied with the mafia, so if MC tried, he'd be swimming with the fishes before the court date happens.... Not to mention plots with corrupted governments where the loan sharks mafia can play a few strings in the background. This does happen IRL in countries but normally not ones like the US or Korea / Japan... I'd assume. Or at least not as easily. Also since I'm from there US I do try to understand that legal systems in other countries might be slightly different than ours, but a legal battle like this one in this series was cringe all the way through if you know a basic knowledge of how courts run.

And also there was one BL where the MC wanted to become a lawyer and got screwed up in the debt drama, and honestly that's on him as an aspiring lawyer. Even if he never made it to college, you'd still think he would understand he can't be strapped with his father's debt.

I think people are misunderstanding his concerns. He doesn't regret killing the woman, outside of the fact it was his first "player" murder. The player deserved it in that situation. What MC is considered about is that he almost let the bear guy die. If misha (fox lady) wasn't there, he would have let the bear guy die for the profits. And that's what he was worried about. That he'd get so cold blooded to let someone innocent die in the name of earning all of bear guys loot. It was the perfect situation too, since bear guy was mortally wounded by a "plunderer" player, so if MC didn't step in with his potion, bear guy would have died and MC would have profited big time, getting enough money for the level 6 of his immortal seal. That's what he is hating himself for.

Idk. Never seen a red cat before so assumed it's a fox. Latest chapter did show a cat tho, so you are probably right. I don't recall if it was ever mentioned, besides her being a beast man and a princess

This series wouldn't be so infuriating if I could binge it... I know some people complain, but honestly I'm just a sucker for the "MC runaway" plotline. If anyone got any recs with more books like this (BG and BL both appreciated) especially when MCs situation is shit and honestly running away makes the most sense. I just hate it when they are caught so quickly.... Sigh

So yeah, she does and actually very soon. I didn’t finish the novel yet, I know she ends ups with the crown prince but I don’t think she’s gonna stay with the Duke family.

I think people aren't reading between the lines on this. From MLs perspective, his relationship was getting better with MC, MC was starting to "open up" and "rely" on him more, but ML just realized, it was all because of the pregnancy hormones. Did MC even like him? Or was it just because MC was pregnant? That's what angered ML. He doesn't know what to believe anymore, and he can't take the rejection that might come if MC "finds out that his 'love' and 'clinginess' were just pregnancy symptoms". Or at least thats what I took from this chapter

adding on this, I think Taeju also blames himself from all of this. Like he ruined Euhyuin's life and then their child died so maybe he's blaming himself from all of these.

Ooh I like that take too! Because he sees himself as someone who constantly hurts Euhyuin (which he has) but this is just one more hurt. It also uses the scene they showed earlier in the chapter, where Euhyuin doesn't care about a house or security or debt. They show him hugging his brother, so Taeju knows the importance Euhyuin places on family.... And Taeju is once again "responsible" for the "death" of Euhyuin's child... But there's all these complex emotions shown in the artwork and not in the dialogue, and most comments I've seen focus on the surface level dialogue parts.

Like the end of this chapter Taeju is literally melting. He says to end things but he's falling apart, he's drowning. Why? There's so much going on that's all so complex. Emotions and thoughts that can't be easily explained in dialogue or thought bubbles. This story is actually full of little details in the art if you look closer, and I kinda love it

FR, this is a VERY WELL MADE AND WELL DRAWN Manhwa. That's one reason why I really love it and is reading it.

I just hope, Euhyuin fixes HIMSELF FIRST before he help fix Taeju. Cause He's literally shattered to dust now.

Based on the author's take on depression, I just hope that is not the case for the next scenes.

1st problem: Okay the heck is the tower game he was playing? I thought it was single player, but it has to be multiplayer. But multiplayer doesn't make sense in the context of him being the only one still playing it. His first major item he gets gathers and fuses skills... The hell are skills? If you are playing a game, do you pick your skills? But this is the real world and people seem to be assigned them like other gate type manhwa series. How can MC know the answer to all different types of fusions (like the contract fusion) if he was the only one still playing this game for YEARS!?! Where can he find other players to take their skills and fuse them? How did he do this testing in the game that was multiplayer, but he was the final player?

2nd problem: his confidence. Is this game virtual reality or a PC game? It seems to be a PC game based on the technology of the world, but it has to be a VR game for his level on confidence. The hell does it come from? Even Kim Dokja acted confident but really struggled to enact his plans because he is an office worker who has never worked out a day in his life. Even with MCs knowledge that doesn't equal skills to back it up. MC knows the attack patterns on the mobs, but if it was a PC game, just cuz you know how to beat a monster in a game doesn't mean you can easily defeat it in real life where it's your body and your muscles you now have to relay on. MC was established as broke, had to fast before large food intake, idk how he has the strength to reasonably accomplish this. Also his cheats make no sense if he was solo-ing this whole thing for the last idk 6 years (ik it's 11 years but I'm assuming there were still some people till about year 5 when the game should mostly be forgotten by now), especially since he had to recreate his character from scratch. That doesn't make sense if his skills are dependant on other players skills to copy and fuse?!?

Problem 3: dumbass side characters. That woman who got stuck in the labyrinth with MC at one chapter is like, we have to stay near him so that we can escape, and then the next chapter is like, help is coming in 3 days, let's kill him now. They still aren't gunna be able to escape.... Sigh. This is brain dead. MC is over confident and has physical skills that come out of his ass (will make sense if there was progression due to stats or something, but he defeated tree monster without any of that...). I just wish I had something else to read. I've read everything by now :')

This is a personal rant, I do appreciate civil discourse about the problems I've pointed out and how you see them differently or if you agree. I'm still gunna read because I eat trash unfortunately, and I've got nothing better to read rn. I'd appreciate recommendations if you got them. I just had to rant since it won't leave my mind till I write it down :/

I do agree with what u said, sometimes i think to myself this plot is real life and not based based on "game" anymore. I do sometimes think on how people don't consider him as a player who reached the 50th floor lol also i get confused with the plot js like u and the fusion and all. I know he was the1 to complete all the floors but why couldn't he had done what he did in reality on the time when it was js a vr game. Honestly this is a good manwha and all but it just gets confusing lol

Piper June 8, 2024 1:16 am

The book ban arc put me into a physiological crisis. Idk why but the last 4 books I've read have all had issues where there is no easy clear answer, and where the choice MC made was right but also lead to so many consequences, which is where I see this going. but this author has such a great way to have very real world applicable discorse in such an intriguing way. That's one of the reasons I love this book

    Piper March 12, 2025 3:13 am

Gives me TGCF vibes. But also if you're free to drop titles, I'd very much appreciate it! I love books that deal with moral dilemmas. That deal with situations where the MC did everything right and yet everything still turned out so wrong...
