My take here is that maybe the real dream is the old neo (where in maki got married to a woman) up to where maki kissed the chibi neo. Maybe when neo got hit by the truck, he's under anxiety because you know love always comes with insecurities that when he got hit by the truck, he started dreaming about maki marrying another woman and the part where he returned into the past is a dream symbolizing how much he loves maki and maybe the incident actually caused neo to lose some of his memories and that the only memory he remember is his dream. What im pointing is that right from HS days maki already decided to marry only neo and that they actually lived together for 3 years already but one day neo is under some insecurities for idk reason that he got hit by the truck and he started dreaming (and the start of his dream is chapt 1). But since it has supernatural tag maybe its as simple as neo really changed the future
