I'm still not sure if I want to commit to this story. The beginning still urks me how he basically kidnaps him and also rapes him. It makes me feel like it's a bit of Stockholm Syndrome, or like the MC is only with the ML because he has nowhere else to go. Idk, with how popular and famous it is, I feel like I need to read it, but the beginning still gives me uncomfy vibes. Like everyone says the ML is a "green flag" now, but is the rape ever acknowledged? Does he ever acknowledge the fact he sorta manipulated the MC into being forced to rely on him? It just seems like the kind of 'ML rapes and kidnaps the MC but the MC has subtle Stockholm Syndrome and everyone forgets what the ML did in the first place.'
These are just my thoughts, and I'm not looking to argue, but could someone please explain why this story might be worth reading? It truthfully just might not be my cup of tea, but I'm curious to see what people have to say. ♡
Yes he does acknowledge it at some point in the story and does everything to redeem himself (doesn’t excuse it but you get it) and also MC doesn’t fall for ML during the red flag era which is refreshing compared to other bl where the MC is just straight up dumb.
For me personally I especially like the character’s personalities and the way they interact with each other (im talking about all the characters in the story, of course you’ll encounter some uncomfy moments between the two main but like…..you already know it’s gonna be a roller coaster and not a green flag story at first)
But yeah that’s what I like about this story
Beginning of the story was really hard to digest, cuz of the Top’s manipulative nature but he became more aware of his feelings which makes him feel unworthy for the bottom. He acknowledges that he was a shitty ahh person and the bottom would be better without him. Bottom didn’t love the guy who used and manipulated him, he loved the guy who tried to compensate for his mistakes even if it means getting out of their sight, unlike his parents who dumped their problems on him. Top loved him so much that he’s so scared that he’s gonna off himself but still didn’t confine him like those obsessed maniac from other BLs
Thank you for the mature response ^-^ I think I'm definitely just iffy because of the beginning and having a hard time believing someone can change after being a rapist (tho this is probably partially because I took a college course on the sociology of rape lmao). I think I'd have to bite the bullet and at least give it a chance, ya know? Like I started reading it when it literally first came out, but I eventually dropped it because I didn't like how controlling and possessive the ML was (at the beginning where it seems like he treats MC more as an object than someone with feelings). I'll definitely try to give it a chance :))
I mean there’s this car scene that got the mc pregnant and it honestly ruined taeju image for me. Yes he was a rapist before that car scene but he was trying to get better BUT NOOO the author had to add the car scene making him go back to being the horrible guy. Idk I like taeju how he is right now but that car scene is always on my mind reminding me he is not a green flag
Thank you for acknowledging that the ML was manipulative at the beginning!! I think the reason I struggled to dive further into this story is because I see a ton of people ignoring/dismissing his actions just because he's "hot." I responded to the previous comment if you'd be more interested in my thoughts, but I honestly think I just need to bite the bullet and give it a chance. Especially because I loved Painter of the Night (another story where the ML abuses the MC at the beginning but changes into a "green" flag at the end), so I'm not sure why I'm so iffy with this story compared to POTN when they're arguably almost similar plots (I think?). I'll have to get passed the uncomfy beginning and try to see it from another perspective haha. Ty for responding so kindly <333
I'm scared by the fact I'm not aware of this car scene I started this story when it literally was first coming out, and I eventually dropped it because it was just so difficult to see how the ML treats the MC (also I'm saying ML and MC because I couldn't remember the names, so my apologies). WAIT-me suddenly realizing mid response-is this what led to the current pregnancy? Like what the last chapter is dealing with? Was it the typical 'alpha goes into rut and becomes a impregnation weirdo' or was like he forces him without a condom or something? Sorry not to ask so many questions, but I just wanna mentally prepare LOL
Oh uh so the car scene got mc pregnant but no one knew. He got kidnapped and in this universe the omega needs his alpha scent to be well and since he was kidnapped he experience pain and well … unfortunately miscarriages. When they found out by going to the hospital the male lead basically left the mc cuz he’s pathetic as fuck (he felt guilty putting mc into constant pain/stress so that’s why he left cuz he thought that was best which really wasn’t cuz the mc was the one who experienced the miscarriage but whatever). He ran away for a month and the mc tricked him into thinking he was drunk so the ml came back and took him home, once they made it home the mc basically drugged the ml into getting into his rut and baby trapped him which is the current pregnancy. Basically these two are not green flags but are uh … yellow flags? Idk I didn’t like how the mc drugged the ml into baby trapping him because … the fuck? But then again Mc only was surrounded by force so of course he thought that shit was normal.
O. H. Well, that's interesting... My original worry was the ML went into rut and then forced the MC, but... I guess at least the ML didn't force him to get pregnant?... That's still disappointing that the MC forced his rut and literally baby trapped him :/ The last sentence hit hard though, that maybe he thinks the force is normal because of how exposed he was to stuff being forced on him, which doesn't make his actions any better, but it's still kinda sad to think about. Thank you for explaining!! I'll definitely keep this in mind if I do eventually read it...
It's nice seeing them being lovey dovey again, but I feel like we moved on from the trauma too fast? Like the ML literally raped the MC, whether or not the MC ended up "enjoying" it during the middle of it happening, the ML still technically forced him in the first place. The MC also was showing signs of being afraid of him and having flashbacks to that moment, but I feel like the author kinda avoided the ML taking accountability for what he did. With that being said though, the MC is literally, what, part of the mafia or a mob? So obviously I'm not that surprised by his actions, I just wish the MC was written to show more respect for himself, I mean, he literally found out his crush was basically a murderer and then he raped him unconscious, it'd be expected he would be afraid of the ML and be traumatized for some time. Of course, it's fiction, and they already had heavy feelings for one another, I just wish it was a little more discussed instead of them immediately jumping back into each other's arms. It would've been more realistic if the angst lasted a bit longer ヽ(`Д´)ノ
Spoilers
Supposedly, the MC returns to the abusive ML at the end, according to people who read the full raws. I'm not even surprised ngl. I had some faith that maybe this would be a good story where the MC gets revenge and escapes his abuser, but then I remembered that rape and Stockholm Syndrome are, unfortunately, a huge kink/common theme in the BL community. It's just like the story Sadistic Beauty BL Sidestory, what a disappointment. I don't even want to read anymore knowing that the MC goes back to being with the man who kidnapped and raped him. :/
To be fair, from what I remember in sadistic beauty, he returns more so because he feels he has nowhere else to go due to ruining most of his other relationships with people in his life, not because he’s in love with the ML. At least, to me, he didn’t show any emotions of love towards him. Which, I don’t really mind how that went down because it’s not the typical “I’m gonna fall in love with the man who repeatedly SA/tortured me”.
That's true, I still find it unfortunate that he felt he had nowhere else to go but back to his abusers house, especially considering he made him hate his life so bad to the point of trying to kill himself. Also, like with everything the ML did to the MC, you'd think he'd be scarred or afraid of him, but he still goes to him cuz he has nowhere else to go, which is honestly sad. I think the ML manipulated him in some way tho, and it's sad that it's romanticized how some people feel as tho they have nowhere to turn to other than their abuser, ya know?
It is cruel of me to wish that the mc would almost succeed with a suicide attempt just for the douchebag to feel some sort of empathy towards him, ik he probably wouldn't care but part of me wishes that if the mc was that close to death, mr asshole would start to think differently (I know he knows that the mc wants to die, but idk maybe seeing it face to face would change something?). Cuz in this case, he's already had a terrible life, death feels like the best escape :((

There's like 2 more chapters after this one, and might I say it's exactly the type of disappointing ending I expected. The side story uke (can't remember his name) doesn't even make him stop despite him literally bleeding. The side story seme basically continues to have sex with him even after the uke has fallen asleep. He continues despite knowing the uke is late for work in the morning. Then it ends with seme giving the uke a bath before work with some shitty statements for an ending.
I already knew this would have a shitty ending because the side story MC would probably end up with the side story ML who's a massive red flag, but the naive part of me was holding onto the hope that the author would finally wake up and realize they're romanticizing domestic violence, but oh well. Not a day goes by where I'm not disappointed with BL stories that have MC's ending up with abusers lmao
I agree with you...I am disappointed in Sagold too...Like wtf??? They gave us hope just like the ML gave the MC...I think this was a lesson that a toxic person doesn't change and continues to be selfish as it's in their nature....
Your last sentence worded it perfectly. It's a shame that toxic relationships and domestic violence are so normalized in BL stories. The ML's never apologize (or at that, give a genuine apology), and this character is a clear example of toxic partners never change their ways. Once an abuser, always an abuser. Like the MC might make some statements that hints he likes the pain or whatever, but at the end of the day, the ML is still abusing him and lowkey manipulating him. It's hard to tell if he even truly loves the MC or if he's just following along because he likes having someone so dependent on him ://
