I understand the power the prince has and how much he is causing all this. But at the end of the day, these two girls are hurting each other just to keep up with his whims. Excessively. Locking the other one up until they develop a phobia then allowing the other to be slapped by the prince. He is the villain yes, but they are also responsible for the hurt they cause each other. Nobody told them to go to the excesses.

That insect queen or something can have me. Take me away under your insect wings your majesty. I am but a frail mortal human.

Man, you reminded me of that time when Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary came out, and there was a scene where Scorpio Milo took of her Helmet, and the entire theater went "Goddammm" "JESUS CHRIST, TAKE ME" "SHIT" and a friend of mine screamed "I could do anything for you mami" ngl, I gasped at her sight too lol
The reason I don't support slapping and violence against women is because these authors know what they are doing. The portrayal of female characters as very annoying so you see, she had that slap coming. Not to mention most boy love stories villainize women. So we can do backflips all we want but no woman should endure violence. Today it will be a woman who deserved it then the next day, there will be a convenient excuse as to why you were slapped.
Also, the survival of women in this kind of era seems to rely a lot on gaining affection of their husband or men.
"the survival of women in this kind of era seems to rely a lot on gaining affection of their husband or men."
Cuz this is the truth on history. Women are considered inferior to men.. To the point female babies could be killed because all they need were a son as an heir...not just in China but a lot other ancient civilization
You may dislike it but you couldn't change history no matter what. And if these authors using that setting and portraying it as is with dramatization then it isn't out of place...
What out of place is if some readers keep seeing it in modern laws and norms where they not only cannot be applied but also different from how it was.
Seriously, if this using ancient setting and then the story brings all modern ideology, there'll be ppl slandering these authors for not conveying historical aspects properly....
But it does not mean all women were evil in history. If we are going by historical setting then you can't tell me all the women were raging bitches. So we deserve good stories about women in these BLs. If not then there is no need to factor women at all if all they will do is show us as one dimensional characters. Not to mention this is not unique in bl. Women writing bl love to write women as the villains. It's some serious internalized misogyny. It's not new at all.
But do you even read this novel??
There are at least 3 good women that jing shao respects there. The bad women? Also 3 ,the empress, mhz's step mom, and this concubine...
And always thinking that what authors write directly reflects their personal views are wrong to begin with..don't you ever heard about disclaimers to begin with?
Sure even if there are cases where those view can happen, you never knew what happened behind the making of the story nor will you able to know what the author really thinks and why they think like that...
If you don't have solid proofs of their personal view, for example like from interview or their own comments about real situations, than calling them mysoginist jusr from stuff they wrote which are fictions, meant you only based it from your own assumptions, which reflects bad on you...
You assume ppl as mysoginist while you yourself did lots of assuming to reach that conclusion. You see where the problems are?
You also says "serious internalized misogyny" when you knew nothing about these authors, but only thru words they weaved for their stories to sell or based on rumors you heard.. Like readers like you here are also everywhere yet never give arguments that are not based on assumptions... Misogyny is also a serious accusation which shouldn't be thrown lightly towads a person when there's nothing you can prove to back that accusation...
And I don't get your statement here:
"So we can do backflips all we want but NO woman SHOULD endure violence."
So even if the women did violence to men, they still should be freed from the same treatment? That's what is called Double Standard.
Funny thing is, you rarely saw male readers complaining most men are always villainized in fictional media for rape, cheating, domestic abuse, murder, etc. It may not be common but violence against men by women does happen, and if go by your statement there, if the men defend themselves by physical to the women who hurt them, it counted as violence to the women? bcuz women should NOT endure violence... Lol that's not how laws works bruh
Oh god you are tiring. I am speaking about the general treatment of women in BL. Also I don't need to read the novel when my comment is about the story here. Anyway, nobody should endure violence. It's not either or. If a woman is violent to a man, she should be punished accordingly with law, not more violence. Get that? Please rest cz I am muting this. Men make up over 90% of those crimes you just listed. So what exactly is your point? Rape, domestic violence etc are mostly committed by men. It is not villainizing if it actual stats. Goodness. Anyway, if you feel so very wronged by my complaint, move along. I have no interest in talking to someone who sees my general opinion as a personal attack. Take it somewhere else.
