It turned out that Renesmee was a fraud. She confessed that she had always been jealous of Mabel — jealous of how Mabel seemed to have everything — so she tried to take at least one thing for herself.
Later, on Mabel’s 17th birthday, the Devlin King — a powerful wizard — possessed Renesmee’s body and attempted to harm Mabel. However, Renesmee’s willpower proved stronger. Instead of striking Mabel, she turned the blade on herself, piercing her own heart as an act of remorse. (At least, that’s how it seemed.) She survived the incident and eventually returned to her own empire.

I can’t help but wonder what was written on that piece of paper. I have a feeling it’ll become a key factor later on—like when the princess finally becomes queen and defeats the king, she might discover that hidden note from her brother. Maybe it says something like, “I’ll do everything to protect you.”
Perhaps he already knew about their father’s darkness and tried to shield her from it, but his plan didn’t unfold the way he hoped. I’d love to see a twist like that—where Martina finds out the truth, realizes her brother’s sacrifice, and breaks down in tears.
