my understanding based on ch.48 and 49, was that he got off the plain after getting the call because he was suspicious, and then he DID go to Yeonwoo's place and/or called the secretary which is how they found the cctv footage which the secretary said was from 2 hours ago(because the other alphas with him asked "did you find him?" and he answered "jo sunggyun took him", and so it was already too late because 2hrs had passed).
But yeah i agree its a weak plot point that Kim Shin didn't assign a bodyguard or surveillance to Yeonwoo when he knew there was still a threat around.
if I remember correctly in the novel ido went into a rut that night... it doesn't excuse what he did but at least he didn't do it when he was in a right state of mind.. it's weird that they changed that, or maybe it will be revealed later
