The five stages of grief are Denial (she hasn’t actually accepted that they’re dead and I’d holding out hope that they’re somehow safe), Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. She’s still at stage one so she’s not treating it as if they’re actually dead because she still has hope.

There's something wrong with the pacing of the story. It's rushing through scenes and skipping from one major event to next as if to catch up to something.
