Broke my heart. Ah to love a straight woman. I really hope she finds a nice partner in the future who loves her unconditionally, or stays single if that's what she wants. I love her character. Too bad for the poly rep doe~
well what ever but I am still laughing at nine imagination

The Duke most definitely views FL as his saviour and understandably so, but he knows next to nothing about her independent life and her as a person so he's not in love with her. FL is there because of duty and it's no wonder she developed an attachment to the Duke's beast form and had those slight feelings (mothering, taking charge of) transferred over to the Duke himself. However, she doesn't know him and is under no obligation to get to know him so the Duke saying all of that to her is out of line and slightly toxic/manipulative as it's guilt tripping. HOWEVER, it is good that the Duke is self-aware and very realistic to show him struggling with this. I like this so far.
I'm pretty sure I can examine whether a fictional character is in love or not, and if the text says they are, if it's believable or not. And knowing about someone is a criteria for loving them. You can't love someone if you know next to nothing about them, have spent very little time together or have never opened up to each other. Their current relationship has all of this.

Is that him?
He's hot as fuck.
God damn!
This is the kind of intimacy we need between male characters without immediately turning them romantic. Don't get me wrong, they'd make a cute ass couple, but I don't think there are enough media which explore intimate platonic friendships (male & female both, especially m&m and m&f combo) without turning it romantic. I love their current relationship.
Here's what I don't get: in chp 61, Ebony said that her running the orphanage would be beneficial to the Duke by increasing his popularity if the ward under his care starts a philanthropic business, but if Gillian is now advertised as the Director of the Orphanage, would the credit be attributed to her? Or is it because the Duke owns the land they've started the Orphanage on, and that's what would boost his reputation? Thoughts?
His name is on the plaque, which means he's a benefactor. The aim was to have him be the largest benefactor, which means his stake in this is purely philanthropic. As the orphanage gains more patrons and press from nobles, merchants and common folk, they'll constantly remember that the orphanage is being backed by someone, who gains nothing from it. The Grand Duke. He'll increase in popularity because he doesn't own the orphanage and thus gains nothing but infamy for his donations.

THEORY
If Reapers were originally humans, then maybe when 704 was a human Geumsan was in love with him or they were mutually in love or whatever. And then enough bad stuff happened that 704 was branded as evil or something and became a reaper to atone for his past sins. I think Reapers don't retain memories of their lives as humans so 704 not knowing Geumsan was his lover makes sense. As for Geumsan, maybe he knows, maybe he doesn't, either way, it explains both his attraction and his protective behavior. That'd be interesting.
