It was right dab in the middle of the Silla empire. The Middle Ages had just begun. The Roman western empire had just collapsed. The early Muslim conquests would begin a 100 years later. The Viking Age began 300 years later in 800 CE. The first plague pandemic occured in that century; for context, the Black Death occurred 800 years later. In the UK, the Anglo Saxons had been invading Britain for just over 20 years give or take. The Roman Empire lasted from 27 BCE to 1453 CE; Bihwan was imprisoned longer. Bihwan was imprisoned for all of that in one space that was unchanging and never-ending all alone by the person he loved most in the world. All things considered, I'd say he's doing pretty well.

I get that. It's hard to properly comprehend how long 1500 years is but it is an enormous time frame. I'm actually suspending my disbelief at the prospect that Bihwan survived this solitary imprisonment and came out relatively sane because any one would go absolutely stark raving mad if they were imprisoned for even a 100 years let alone 1500.

What a shame! This had great potential but wasted it. Another 20 chapters to flesh out the ending and different, more nuanced conclusion would have been much better. Maybe side stories could help with endearing the main couple pairing (Sungwu and Dongha) to us instead of Jin Wu but it wouldn't fix the lackluster conclusion of the novel world. A real shame indeed
I actually really enjoyed s1 of the drama after I decided to take it as it's own thing. S2 doe, was . . . horrible. No other way to put it. I'm never gonna forgive what they did to my man Donald Na, reducing all his depth & complexity to the shallow-ass, mid-ass queerbaity mess that was the live action. S1 still left an impression on my mind while I snored through s2. Gonna have to reread this after the mess that was the live action.
