For me, I also suspected him of being the genius based on how he acts. He always tries to lead the group attention to the leader and always make sure that everybody follows the leader. And also, it seems that he is the only who is in contact with the leader and talks on the phone, so I wasa suspecting that he was "calling the leader" as an excuse, while in reality he was giving instructions behind the scenes.
Also, as for the leader, when group K and group C first met and the leader talks, it seems like what he said was scripted and rehearsed beforehand. If he was really the genius, that shouldnt be the case.

Well... I mean if you don't like the age gap between these two, you'll probably be disturbed more by even larger age gaps between the other characters (like several hundred years), though I don't know if you can judge it with human standards as it's an elf and dragon, lol.
It's a fantasy series and the two main characters are both adults so I don't really see anything wrong with it, but that's just me. I understand it just might not suit everyone'a tastes.
