I'm slightly confused (as I don't know much about stuttering). It says that he's not stuttering out of nervousness, but he's nervous because he stutters. Why then doesn't he stutter around family or by himself?
So when he's around friends/family, he doesn't feel pressured to 'speak properly', so he doesn't stutter.
When he's with strangers, he may feel he's going to fuck up and stutter - therefore he gets nervous and it almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more often it happens and he stutters when he speaks, the less confidence he has in himself to speak 'normally' in a setting with strangers. :)
Ok, so, I read the news on the official given-anime.com site. From what I understand, the film will be focussing on Haruki, Akihiko, & Ugetsu's relationships. They might start with snippets we already get alongside the development of Ritsuka & Mafuyu's relationship in the TV series (volume 1~half of volume 3). I think they will mainly animate from volume 3~5. We'll probably get snippets of Ritsuka & Mafuyu's ongoing relationship too; like the omakes, supp. lesson scene, staying over scene, being introduced to Hiiragi & Shizu, etc. The film will most likely run for 90 minutes, so I'm not sure how many scenes they will skip or cover.
In saying that, looks like the anime's season 1 & film in 2020 will cover all the released material so far in the manga. Which means we might get to hear the 2nd song in the film. Which also means we probably won't get season 2 in a while, not until at least another 3-4 volumes after volume 5 are released. I'm not sure whether Natsuki-sensei will continue to zoom the focus on Akihiko & Haruki (since their relationship has finally been resolved towards the end of volume 5), will switch back to Mafuyu & Ritsuka, will give scenes for each couple back and forth, or it will end in volume 6. These are just my speculations! Hopefully it's helpful.
Now that I think of it, I don't think I've come across the name 'Hotaka' before. Now I'm wondering how it's written? 穂高?Would it be read as Hodaka instead of Hotaka since the 高 comes after another kanji?
His name is 穂嵩 (Ho•taka). I don't really know how to explain the meaning, but that's not the main point.
About your question on the 高 kanji, it depends. Usually you would use "daka" or "kou" as a second reading for the kanji, but with names it's pretty different. For example, there's a famous mall in Japan called 高島屋 (Taka•shima•ya) and your read it as Taka

Mafuyu is gay (he never showed any attraction towards women). Ritsuka is probably demisexual or even pansexual (we never really see him being attracted to anyone else before, man or woman, but who knows). Aki is bisexual (he's been with both men & women). Haruki is either gay or bisexual (not much known about his past attractions/relationships). Ugetsu is so far gay, with the upcoming chapters unknown, because no chapter or spoilers has been officially released, the rumours are just rumours.
That's all.
Haruki is bi, Akihiko is the only guy he's been attracted ever. He has only haz girlfriends until now
