BDSM - a topic/subject I am not that knowledgeable about neither am I into it. No offense intended towards BDSM practitioners/fans but it's just not my thing. Consequently I avoid stories that have anything to do with it. BUT, I still ended up picking "Yoru wa Tomodachi" lured in by it's Outstanding Cover. I am weak to Beautiful Artwork just as well Stories and I am immensely glad that I did as This manga has Both.
Yoru wa Tomodachi features, 2 seemingly normal boys actually sharing a relationship of Dominance & Submission, on a more psychological level than physical. The latent Dominant gradually becomes fascinated with Bondage play while catering to the whims of his Submissive. What's most intriguing is the fact that, it's NOT the Dominant who's in control here, BUT the Submissive.
Even though I have no knowledge in BDSM what so ever this story came to me as a portrayal & exploration of the very essence of it while showcasing Masumi & Tobita's distorted love story. After the 1st few chapters I was mentally prepared for a fairly twisted story with a tragic background behind Tobita's masochism. BUT to my pleasant surprise it turned out pretty Sweet at the end. Ido Gihou meticulously NAILED each & every aspect of the complexity of Tobita & Masumi's relationship, that kept suffering due to Tobita's paradoxical character BUT, thriving with Masumi's love, at the same time. Slow claps for sensei for such an exceptional BDSM Love Story. I will never see BDSM in the same eyes as I did before. And a Huge Thanks for the Picture Perfect End! I couldn't have asked for a more Beautiful One.

BDSM is represented especially poorly in yaoi and BL manga. Well, in a lot of manga in general, actually. You'd be surprised by the amount of control a sub actually has. Some partners even plan out what they will do ahead of time, the sub okays or suggests all of it. BL often portrays it as active sexual assault or as the sub getting swept away in it all, but that isn't accurate at all. I thought the seme was quite sweet, tailoring his actions to what his uke wanted.

I agree. Specially My idea about BDSM acquired from BL mangas couldn't have been more wrong. Majority of the BL portrays it as plain sexual & physical abuse. And I think the main reason behind it is because they feature the submissive as a "forced" submissive which makes it non-consensual. Before reading this manga I never thought about BDSM the way I am thinking now. Consent,Control & Trust makes a Huge difference here, as BDSM practice takes both the partners to the very edge of their Sanity. It's the kind of Dangerous Pleasure that can not be brought upon/acquired without Utmost Trust in your partner. And because most of the BLs are too busy in fan servicing(no offense intended towards BDSM manga fans) they fail to deliver such an important fact.

Looks like Majority of the people liked the 2nd story more. And I liked it too. But, for me the 1st story hit the spot! A love story between an angel & a human is not that uncommon among BL fantasy plots but the depiction of that plot here was Exceptionally touching. Kinda reminds me of Aoi Aki's Shounen ai fantasy with yaoi bonus. And above all, I loved Achile's character the Most! Now that's a Man for you! He was both an Obedient Grandson, A Devoted Prince, A Marvelous King & last but not the least A Faithful, Bestest Best Lover you could ever ask for! Rafile was obviously the Cutest, Kindest & yet the Most pitiful Angel I have ever seen in the BL history! I am glad that he didn't end up [[[[SPOILER ALERT]]]] with Grain. Although they loved each other & I did prefer their Love story over the one with Achile BUT you can not spend your whole life solely on Love(just a personal opinion. no offense intended to anyone). It's just too Lonely & Unfair. Rafile needed a Lover who would love him truly from the bottom of his heart & Achile was the Perfect match for him!

So, here I was, reading the cutesy wutesy oneshots by Muno & then came along Ch.3 with a BAAM!! Even though it's a common set up in BL mangas, I must say, it was so well done! I liked how the mangaka kept her characters simple & flawed like any other normal human being & didn't make it over the top dramatic. Rather her detailed, attentive way of showing Yuu & Kyou's relationship & how it developed & changed over time, tugged at my heart strings. Sometimes too much kindness can put your Loved ones over the Edge. This chapter is by far My fav Oneshot in this whole collection.

This reminds me of "Udagawachou de Mattete yo" due to the extremely similar setting. And yet there's something oddly different about it from Udagawachou. I think what makes it different & spices up this manga is Inui's character. He's not sweet or submissive like Momose. Instead he a has twisted side to him, alternating with his occasional gentleness. It's already cute enough as it is but I can't help but anticipate more from this as it explores the issue of cross dressing as well while keeping the Fluff meter Max ^ - ^
TRAP!! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
i have to check the manga because of your comment, hahaha
That's cause it had the Golden word "Yaoi" in the genre section(which is now changed thanks to whoever flagged it). ( ̄へ ̄)
