I think it was referring to Riftan leaving three years ago. On chapter 14 last panel Max said that today feels like the dawn of three years ago. When Riftan leaves for Dragon escapade. Riftan will only be gone for three weeks. No time skip.

But most of the interactions between Maxi and the Magician happen when Riftan is out meeting the king so maybe we'll be able to see more of Maxi acting on her own there.
