i dont think the plot of this story is the strongest, but it is pretty well written. the ending left much to be desired which is a shame because everything pre-xiaodu-punching-wangqi was really good and strong, but maybe the authors were tired of producing the story or had to suddenly change gears. the whole tattoo storyline is hard to make sense of. i’m assuming (and this is probably wrong) that xiaodu being the snail girl is the reason for his supernatural memories of song yue and wang qi’s argument over the scalpel. the scalpel thing is probably related to that witchcraft shop that mingming (wangqi’s ex) frequented often. wang qi said that if you write the name of your crush on it and share blood (or something??) then you’ll be in love forever. its then very VERY briefly mentioned thag xiaodu happened to cut himself on the scalpel (maybe before wang qi got a chance to?). anyway i started reading this in like 2021 and then dropped it for 4 years. came back now and i was enjoying it so much until i slowly became more and more confused. the art is still really pretty tho and i really like how realistically and healthily the characters are written.

this is a free story. z-pico is doing all the work solo and delivering gorgeous art and a good plot as well. i think its sort of entitled to be upset over how long this story has been going for. theres no push for chapters because again, the author is working for free and if they wanted to do paid serialization you’d definitely see a drop in quality compared to if they continued to work at their own pace.

why r we so upset that yoshiki doesnt exactly have romantic feelings for “hikaru”? have we for once remotely considered that the entire premise of the manga is dissecting the horrifying ordeal of having the body of your loved one stolen and transformed into something you do not know? and then you have to live literally haunted by their face, their voice, their mannerisms but KNOW that they are no longer there. yoshiki’s feelings about “hikaru” are honestly quite optimistic considering the circumstances. i think ppl r just upset their ship might not be canon. stop tunnel visioning on whatever semblance of romance there might be between “hikaru” and yoshiki and read the manga! god- please.
i totally agree with you!! it’s definitely a warped sense of thinking to believe that yoshiki should just “give in.” even if, somehow, he caught himself feeling something romantic, the jarring, grating reminder that is “the lost child” in hikaru’s body reminds him constantly of his pain and his nauseating forgetfulness. we see constantly that, whenever yoshiki forgets that this false hikaru isn’t human, he’s punished severely. he fights to save his friend from a hole? his friend nearly murders a little girl “fulfilling” his wish. even indulging in the idea of their future, knowing that hikaru might hurt someone again, makes him feel guilty. of course, there’s also the fact that the more they learn, the better hikaru gets in yoshiki’s eyes. like the relief of finding out that hikaru wasn’t the one attracting the misfortune because he wasn’t the great brain snatcher after all. and that he hadn’t demanded human sacrifice. i definitely think that, once yoshiki takes her advice, he’ll force a lasting and permanent change in hikaru’s behavior, but i also don’t think it’ll be enough to suddenly fester romantic feelings. like you said, it’s not a guarantee. i can’t imagine being in his shoes, whether hikaru was my best friend, sibling, or partner. accepting the being separately might have worked, but in the package that is my best friend’s/sibling’s/partner’s body? probably not.

couple years ago everyone was singing this manga’s praises for its occult themes. i dont really think this is hard to understand if you just read it? hizuki (the teacher) is possessed by one of the twin spirits of the sogetsu shrine (the male one, akatsuki who was some what of a god) and because of that he is now able to see ghosts, curses, apparitions etc. and also had a charming effect. u can blame bad writing if you want but its sort of all there for you to figure out. the whole rape/dub-con thing is usually par for the course with horror BL, think of black mirror BL manhwa. i’m not trying to excuse it or anything, but its just interesting to me how much everyone switched up on this. lol
