I don't think he rejected him. I think he thought he was confessing his feelings for the MC, his brother. And that redhead was begging him not to fire him because he thought the manager would be disgusted with him and so he was disappointed that's how he thought of him. But I'm probably wrong because I don't understand how the whole thought about how 'if he were a woman' fits into that context.
