There’s no romance. There’s been hints of many pairings but they’re never official and they’re left to the reader’s imagination. A canon character in the story ships Dokja with Joonghyuk though. There’s also an established pairing (NOT with the mc, Dokja) but they broke up after 2 years because the wound is still fresh from losing someone they care about.

Ok spoiler time! Let’s talk about PAIRINGS.

I personally ship YJH with KDJ but I’m not gonna ignore all the straight hints. If you wanna know which ones they are, here is a lot. At first it seemed like Yoo Sangah is official since there’s a few scenes between her and Dokja but nothing actually happened. Her face has been used to get the attention of a Dokja a few times though. Second is Heewon, some people joked that her dedication towards Dokja might lead to something and they ARE close, but nothing romantic happened between them too. Third is Jihye. No, she’s a high school student. She doesn’t like him romantically lmao. And I’m not gonna touch Yoosung because she’s a child. She has a paternal relationship with Dokja. There’s a lot of hints that Gilyoung (the other kid in the crew, grasshopper lad) has a thing for Yoosung anyway. There’s also Hayoung, canon trans character but what she admired isn’t originally Dokja but a certain constellation. Lastly, Sooyoung. She might be the best contender considering that she’s the late, third protagonist. I can see many people who’re into straight couples ship her with Dokja.

I personally don’t ship them and would rather see them as best friends. But ain’t that the same with YJH for some people? They’d rather see KDJ be buddies with YJH and they hope something might happen with HSY. Basically, a lot of things happened late game that might seem romantic to some readers. A couple of people in the story has teased Sooyoung but she never admits it. Personally, I think it’s possible she has feelings for Dokja. At the very least, it’s clear she cares a lot about him. She doesn’t like Joonghyuk lol their relationship is pretty rocky but she knows he has a weird camaraderie going on with Dokja.

Okay. Yoo Joonghyuk. This guy is the ‘protagonist’ so obviously he’d have a ‘romantic interest’ in the original novel. In certain timelines of his previous regressions, he’d be in a romantic relationship with one of the ‘heroines’ aka Seolhwa. She’s one of those beautiful doctors who’s sometimes an enemy in other world lines but not always. He even had a child with her in a few timelines, but other times he watches her get together with someone else. The YJH in Dokja’s turn is single.

As for Dokja himeself... Honestly, his feelings for everyone in the crew is very platonic. Nothing actually happens. He’s willing to risk his life for everyone in the crew, nevermind the consequences. He also broke down a few times when some of them are in danger or in the verge of death. He finds many of the people in his crew (particularly the girls) attractive. He does have a thing for women wearing chinese dresses and garter belts lol BUT a man can have his kinks without being attracted to them romantically. It’s worth noting that he measures people’s attractiveness according to Joonghyuk’s looks. Constantly.

Why do I ship KDJ and YJH despite the latter’s seemingly asshole behavior in the first hundred or two chapters? Oh, you sweet naive child. The lengths both of them have been through for the other. No matter the amount of X years... Lots of HEAVY spoiler territory that’d ruin the entire story if I said it.

Is there a big difference between the novel in webnovel vs boxnovel? I want to read a good translation so I’ll pay if it’s better.

Free version changed translators midway (around ch 300+) so if you're not into the change of terms (stories -> fables, etc) or new names (Sooyoung -> Su-Yeong, Heewon -> Huiwon etc), I suggest the paid version.

but come on Dokja is a reader and jonghyuk is a protagonist we know they are mant for one another lol also they both are self proclaimed "companions" (wink wink)
i have just been quenching my love for this ship by reading fanfics on a03 they have some that are really well written and just creating scenarios in my own head loll plus the thing with sooyoung is that both of them act so much like besties that i feel weird for shipping them and personally i ship heewon with hyunsung so thats that also even if the novel doesnt have any romantic subplot i personally dont mind since the strong family vibes makeup for everything

What sealed the deal for me is the shit KDJ has done for YJH. He really sacrificed a lot for YJH’s happiness late game, the mad lad did all he can to make the perfect turn!! And also, the revelation of the sponsorship thing! And YJH’s actual, forgotten reason for his attribute! There’s a line in the novel that was unintentionally romantic when he was talking to his sponsor. For YJH, as if he’d go through all that crap in ch 500+ just to ask KDJ a question! I mean the question is valid but the fact that YJH was basically ‘created’ for him by the author... FUUUUCK. I’m trying really hard not to be spoiler-y lol. ;-; I also don’t ship KDJ with HSY, I too would very much like them to be best friends only. Heewon and Hyunsung is a great couple too! I was pretty sad about what happened between them but I guess they needed some space after the shit that’s happened. Hopefully, they’ll get together later after the epilogue!

I also read a ton of fanfics but most of the ones I saw on ao3 are AU so I just go to twitter to look for fanart of the two. There’s so many from the Korean fandom and I’m so glad ;-; that I’m not the only one who ships them lmao

Oh, I think you didn't get what I mean. xD I read the summaries and many of them are AUs so I skipped them. The ones I DID read are the first three pages of the ones with the most kudos. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ I can 'recommend' fanart though.
