ive been reading this for 74 chapters now and ngl if you told me this was chapter 30 i wouldve believed you. literally almost NOTHING has happened since her ex left. Crumbs of action that couldve been condensed into 8-10 chapters max.
Maybe i'll take a break from this for like another 30 chapters lol
Slow repetitive plot points make for an unenjoyable slowburn. because it’s been a complete cycle of Haesoo’s unchanging perception that we can see through her internal monologue. So the author’s been repeating the same few problems with the same setting for far too many now (Taeha’s room and/or Jay talking internally about how strange he is, Na Haesoo questioning Taeha in her mind for the umpteenth time in her room e.g., Jay covering shifts/monitoring for the same shit and it re-introducing it almost every time. Repeating Mincheol backstory snippets to constantly remind the reader of something they are fully aware of and Na Haesoo’s attachment - back to back sometimes. Which again would be fine if something else happened every chapter that = some progression plot wise), so it feels often that you gained nothing new from any chapter waiting a week or that it was entirely predictable.
Probably would be better to let it wait marinate and then read it in bulks
i think it depends on how you view it really, and the reason you read fiction for. imo this pace reflects the reality of things. many people read a story in order to escape the repetition and monotony of life, so unknowingly they project their displeasure onto this story, that doesn't cater to that desire.
if you're reading the story with the intention of analysing human relationships for example, this pace's realism, as well as Mincheol's and Haesoo's dynamic will satisfy you and keep you engaged. if you're reading for a surreal mystery with a quick climax then you'll be disappointed. i feel like people see this mafia trope as extraordinary, but men beat each other behind closed doors all the time, be it in wealth or poverty. we are just fortunate not to be part of or close to this side of life.
this used to be one of my favourite yaois, but I think the slow updates and dragging storyline with the yakuza backstory has made it difficult for me to enjoy this now.
Not trying to say I don't appreciate the complex storytelling, and I'm sure the author is working very hard at putting this out, its just I've been reading this for YEARS and the infrequency of updates and dragging plot makes it hard for me to remember chapter from chapter, especially with so many name drops here and there. The momentum just isn't strong enough anymore.
I am still reading this almost out of obligation, and also wanting to moments between doumeki and yashiro.
That's just the reality of things that update so slowly and infrequently, especially with plots that drag and don't have enough development that most audience find satisfying.
Most of us settle for what we get out of necessity and understanding of the personal circumstances of the creators.
Thats still doesn't mean that I'm not excited for updates, but on the other hand I'm just not into the story as I used to be when I had alot of content to read at first.
You said it very well imo about the momentum. At this point how is it much different from being a repetition of the pre time-skip arcs? I'm feeling kinda disappointed, but it is what it is.
I also felt this way and stopped reading it four or five years ago. A few months ago, I started from the beginning and read all nine volumes in one go. When you don't have to wait for chapters, the pacing is actually quite consistent and engaging, and it isn't difficult to keep up with the characters or yakuza drama.
If you're losing your enjoyment for the series, I recommend waiting until volume 10 is complete!

theres one more side story guys
Amen to that
