Might be just me, but I found the legitimate ending of the manga somewhat predictable and boring, good guys survive?! Give the audience what they WANT?! BORING! Don't get me wrong, I still love the concept and execution of the series though.
But what if Kiriyama won?
No doubt he could've and would've, but Noriko ex-machina OP. Anyways, back to him winning. He finally returns to the society and then he begins to feel again (DO NOT SCIENCE ME I JUST HOPE!), and gradually over time he learns to regret what he did and understand how much he hurt all those people he killed. Suffering from the pain of his mistakes he begins to learn how to better himself with his newfound feelings... maybe even cut to the future and he manages to shut down the whole "program" with that genius brain of his and get revenge for his classmates and earning closure for himself. *CUT*
Fairy tale ending for me to be honest... Since I refuse to believe the fact that Noriko, the girl who was shot in the leg, crying for Shuuya and lying down resting for the majority of the manga managed to nail a headshot on Kiriyama: the first time she held a gun mind you. (or maybe not, I could be wrong honestly but from what I recall haven't seen her shoot a gun)
I love how the mangaka dictates the difference between Fran and Gavrill! When Fran was at her school, she only gave a solution to all the people who seeked her to solve all of their superficial problems with her surgical skills, but in hindsight it wasn't even beneficial towards them (sadly like most of her very skillful, yet redundant procedures)
But with Gavrill, when she was forced to become a substitute teacher, she actually offered the students solutions within their capabilities and made them do most of the work. And I say most here because of that one time she tagged along to a gang fight with her students.
Overall I think Gavrill's the more realistic and productive mindset compared to Fran... even though she's kind of extreme at times.
