I know most of you don't feel bad for her(I myself don't that much either) but do bear in mind she's a victim in all this as well.
I'm not saying she doesn't have her faults, but imagine being raped and then forced to be together with your rapist. You feel awful for betraying the love of your life so you brake it off with him, and become the rapists bed warmer. You develop a case of Stockholm syndrome to not lose your mind while he plays with your feelings only to get abandoned. The only was to get back is doing something that could very possibly lead to your death.
What can she do?
Her position as it is is ruinous enough.
If she doesn't do anything, she dies. But if she does...in the off chance she survives...that could be a new beginning for her and her child.
So she accepts his offer, and works for him.
Everything is going well.
She can taste freedom on the tip of her tongue.
And then everything she's been through goes to waste whith the arrival of the duchess.
If I were in her position, I'd probably resent her arrival as well.

She's half a victim.
She could have gone to the butler and admitted the baron was threatening her if she didn't spy and pass info. She had a fiance and cheated on him.
But I do feel sorry for her being in that situation. The baron took advantage of her situation. And being a maid is no walk in the park...they are essentilaly like slaves. Power is scary to the powerless, but also appealing.
Where I don't feel sorry for her is where she abuses ogtherrs because she's upse tor because she got power. She had no right to make the lives of others difficult who are/were like her: poor, a maid, under the thumb of those with power and money.
In the end, she is also an abuser, just a powerless one overall.

While in all this the only person to blame is the si calked victim that had her life ruined... but never in the slitest did try to talking with her beloved, try to tell everything and maybe he would merry her even if she wasnt virgem anymore. And maybe she could leave her job and live with the man that she loves...
But well... it sure is easyer and more confortble to just blame everything around her and fuck with innocent coworkers... just bc "she is a victim" ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

I can understand why she'd be too ashamed to tell her fiance and family once she got pregnant. I mean, that's not that hard to "get." In the end, it comes down to power....she didn't have it...the baron had it....and it was probably a situation where once she couldn't go to her family for help, only the baron was her hope for some sort of solution to it all. Only he was a demon.
But her treatment of other maids was wrong. And they could have been a second family if she had developed those relationships better. Servants know what it's like to be powerless....

When you're so blinded by your own pain and guilt it's hard to make connections with others cause it forces you to be vulnerable. Especially if you don't want to. It's much easier to lash out to make yourself feel superior. Then factor in a manipilative fuck boy who offers security emotionally and physically, not surprising it turned out the way it did. In many ways her actions are a defense mechanism.
Haven't you ever done this? Not to her extent, but haven't you ever took out your anger on someone undeserving? I definitely have. And I was definitely not mature enough (at the time) to apologise every single time.
Ain't trying to discount what you say - you make solid points and I agree w them. Idk I just feel some strange attachment to her. Like I need to protect her or something. I hope there's character growth and redemption for her. I'd be disappointed if there isn't.

Agreed. It isn't good to displace your anger and take it out on others but at the same time it's common occurrence in the real world and in this fictional case, she kind of just spiraled down the rabbit hole since she didn't have anyone to confide in. I don't think she's a good person but she isn't a bad person either. She just represents how an actual being might react. It'd be more unnatural to be a Saint in a time like that.
PS to the other reply: she couldn't talk about it with her husband because you have to take the time into consideration too. She viewed herself to be defiled and couldn't erase the evidence of it (her child) so she couldn't turn to her fiance. She probably blamed herself for being raped because the mindset of the timd period differs greatly from today. To bring a bastard child back to her beloved would cause both of them to be shamed by society. Some may think that she couldn't receive love from the count so she returned back to her original lover and this would also reflect badly on her lover and could very well affect his work depending on his job. To have an illegitimate child was most definitely viewed even worse than if she was to be divorced (which, back then, was like the death of a woman's social life). Many things have changed but it's also important to consider the timeline.

What is a bad person? Is it not someone who does bad things? She not only abused her fellow maids, she felt proud of having some power when she did get it and abused that, too. Let's not erase what she IS responsible for. She always had the option of running back home when first pressured by the Baron (if we're honest). Or talking to the butler and asking to be transferred or given leave.
And I agree. She's shown behaving as a person who has been predated upon may act, but since the maids and no one else knew, she just came across as a bitch, and their reaciton is normal, too.
I'm kinda hoping our FL can help her. I mean, she's not merciless. BUT..if the maid decides she wants revenge somehow, she's fucked. And she'll deserve what she gets for lashing out.
There are abused children who grow up to abuse children. We don't say, "Well, they aren't to blame as they are victims, too." No, we say, we'll, they were victims, until they became predators.
This made is a victim who decided to then be a bitch to her coworkers. That's on her.
Her decision not to contact her mom/dad is hers. Her decision to cut ties is hers.
Hopefully, she'll go to the FL and tell the whole truth and ask to either be let go or to be helped.
I mean, the Lord needs an heir. Can the female lead use that baby? :D

I'm so angry with the fake cause, I mean, if you're gonna take such an important identity, the least she could do was act like it???
I get she's just a, what, 1800 peasant, but SERIOUSLY???
How stupid can one get???
I am personally offended they ever thought this was a good idea without proper training or anything. She even has a hidden agenda of her own!!! I mean, seriously- drugging the person who gave you that power is so stupid I can't even

Lmao
1) I was waiting for the mermaid
2) why was she talking as if no one would understand her in the first part? What she felt was perfectly valid and I doubt anyone would feel disgusted for something as trivial as that
3) she should have told the wife of the teacher.
To put it frankly, he was an asshole. Not telling his wife he was did not make you "a better person". She could be spending her whole life with him, only to realize much later when he inevitably cheats again when she's older and unable to get a job(I'm assuming she's a housewife Because japan be like that sometimes) and seek independency and live her own life.
I saw someone say it was cause they didn't want to ruin the child's life, but I don't think a divorce that yound would, compared to the hurt the mother goes through. I'm theorizing that she might just be putting herself in the kids shoes and taking pity in him, but I'm probably just reading too much into it :/
Two things:
1) I always shipped her with the cousin more than the prince, sorry not sorry and
2) Dean is more attractive than both Ian and his cousin here, change my mind(it's the crazy eyelashes/eyeliner/ eye bags for me)
AGREE!! Like iwish Dean was the Meal libe instead he so much hotter
you have a fine taste (▰˘◡˘▰)
