I think the elves chef was special. I remember at some point he had some kind of reset (i should re-read it). Maybe He'll meet some other "version" of him. I did not read the book so i don't really know where the story goes.
Reset? Do you mean that part when the mc asked about the system and the elf kind of lagged before ignoring those words? Cause I think that was only due to the fact that these creatures aren't supposed to know about the system, so when asked, they can't handle it. Kinda like a computer that can't execute the order.
I didn't read the novel either, but the MC's shadow-thing isn't supposed to work 100% of times, so a failure was bound to happen.

I've read a lot of these kind of game-like stories and the appearance of dungeons, and the system in itself, could be part of the story in the future.

First of all, people keep saying his eyes look a bit like jewels and have blue reflections (at the market, when he mocked Jeannette for a sec you could see his eyes were a bit blue underneath the black)
They weren't clear about his death, they just said that "Anastasius (claude's brother) wanted to kill Claude with dark magic but instead...", they didnt say what happened, just showed Anastasius with some blood, standing and I had just assumed the dark magic turned back on him or sth
Also the dark magic thing could have something to do with how he has black eyes and hair now
There's also the fact that he basically looks just like anastasius but with dyed hair
You know the part when athy went to the quack s shop ? The old guy talking about dark magic bringing bad ending and her wondering what that meant since lovely princess had a happy ending and thinking maybe something happened afterwards
Well after, there was the "flash forward/alternate reality thing" with Claude in pain asking for Jeannette. In it we see anastasius telling jeannette to leave claude alone
So clearly anastasius is still alive and well and planning to take over Obelia with the unknowing help of Jeannette, his daughter after all
And thats obvious but he clearly put a curse or sth on the ribbon jeannette gave tome athy since after when she wore it she fell unconscious
