Not exactly dumb. He got the assumption because Cynthia was right there crying over him after he was healed from poison while Margaret was in the distance looking around (talking to the fairies, but he can't see them).
my point was if he knows why did he think that breaking his engagement off with her was gonna make her reveal her powers. he has this suspicious look every time there’s an opportunity for her to reveal her powers and a look of disappointment when she doesn’t
The prince has that look because he wants her to be humiliated. He is under the assumption that Cynthia is the real saint with powers and the FL (forgot her name) is bullying her. So he's taking joy out of her "getting what she deserves." then he used the opportunity to claim Cynthia is the one who saved him so he should be marrying her the "true saint"
