I have one friend that always say "i don't know what to say" when i told her about my life problem, her response doesn't change in 3 different times, so i stopped telling her anything, my other friends will say "oh it must be hard for you", "cheer up", etc that give me positive energy, "i don't know what to say" sounds indifferent and lack of care
My experience is not even about a love confession and i already think that kind of answer hurts me, i can't even imagine how hurt it is if i hear "i don't know what to say" for a love confession, lol
Hmm but the phrase “I don’t know what to say” doesn’t exactly means being indifferent or lack of care. I’ve been the type to always think that I don’t know how to respond (though I don’t reply that out loud) mainly because I couldn’t relate to what they’re going through so I don’t know how to respond. I tend to care too much about the response and overthink what I should say that sounds right. I feel bad all the time because I’m unable to fully sympathize since I don’t understand how things may be like for them. I also think that I don’t want to just have the same reply as others since it might sound like I was copying them and not actually caring.
