Yes, I think Mitsuharusama is the old man in the beginning . He fell in love with her and either married her or not. But I think she may have been stolen away by Shinpei and this goofy man who fell in love was left alone. Then I hope that her and Shinpei went on to live as full of a life as they could before they died. I may have the names wrong, I'm bad with those, but you know who I mean.
