Damn them! After all that. They rush the end! I see a pattern in their work. Absolutely beautiful art, interesting story, rushed unsatisfying ending.
This work is beautiful. Breathtakingly so. They should at least do an additional chapter. All that heartbreak and boom!

Raws are up on ToonKor
What is up with the hot assassin? Is he SH's long lost older brother?

Imagine what if the assassin can't kill nakyum as well because he is soft for him. But not like a sexual way. Jiwha be like.... And then the assassin is caught in between nakyum and jiwha but ultimately ends up with jiwha. But I think that's too much drama and triangle so I prefer to just leave this plot in my own imagination ahaha.

I haven't seen the raws just read the comments...
But can someone confirm for me....

............................................................
Well, well, well, well...Seungho certainly didn't see himself playing this role...
I wanted smut and I got it, but not the way I wanted it. And neither did Seungho.
In the raws for chapter 42, we get a very dejected Nakyum who believing he is the trash that Inhun (BASTARD!) told him he was decides to beg Seungho to "embrace him" (and yes...he means he wants SH to f*@# him).
People, either we are going to have to put up with NK's love for Inhun for some time, or SH is going to have to work overtime to seduce our boy from the dark side. I prefer the latter.
Nakyum is very prettily and very tearfully trying to get SH to sleep with him so he can drown his sorrows in d!@& and SH reads this as NK sacrificing himself in the altar of SH's d!@& for Inhun's sake. Seungho is used to people approaching him to use him, many of his lovers did but he can proudly boast that once they had a taste, they wanted more. But not Nakyum!
Nakyum doesn't want Seungho. Nakyum wants to use Seungho to forget Inhun's true face and he wants to ignore what Inhun is by taking Inhun's words to heart and instead of getting mad at the injustice of being called a slut (when NK only put up with sex with SH because Inhun's life was in danger) or facing the reality that Inhun was aware that Seungho was sleeping with Nakyum (He listened through the door when SH came at NK with the blade and threatened to slash him - Did anything implied in that whole conversation that what was between them was consensual?) he wants to drown himself in either pain or pleasure. He doesn't care which.
Seungho sees that Nakyum doesn't want him and suspects that NK is just doing Inhun's bidding whether directly or indirectly.
Nakyum tries to entice SH by getting him to penetrate him - unprepared! Which SH himself points out, looking very aggrieved.
There couldn't be a bigger blow to SH's pride than that. It proves to SH that Nakyum sees him as a villain that would thoughtlessly take his pleasure from him as he had before. The fact that Seungho has changed has made no impression on NK. The medical care that other nobles would not have provided, the move to the lord's room, and Seungho's withdrawal from his own home to provide for NK's comfort made no impression whatsoever. Seungho has softened and Nakyum is aware but doesn't care.
Seungho hasn't overcome the barrier that Nakyum uses to defend himself against him. And I think if the person that Nakyum loved was worthy of him, SH wouldn't be so offended by it, he might just acknowledge that he IS the villain and accept his role as such. But Inhun is despicable too. Even more repugnant because he disdains Nakyum and his love but has no problems toying with, using and disposing off NK at his convenience.
Seungho, on the other hand, is experiencing tender feelings towards NK. He wants to distinguish NK from the servants and others, not because it bothers him that NK is low born but to elevate NK so that others know that he is to be treated with respect. He could have easily taken what NK offered even if he believed that NK was trying to get favors for Inhun. He could have done what he attempted and failed miserably to do that first night with Nakyum: Taken what he wanted and then mock NK for it.
But Seungho is trying to redeem himself in Nakyum's eyes and I see that even though he could very easily revert back to his old ways, Nakyum is worth more to him than just a quick lay. He doesn't revert to anger and if Google translate wasn't mocking me, Nakyum's well placed jab at SH's willingness to ignore NK's refusals to sleep with him before, yet here's SH now refusing NK when he is willing, should have done the trick and tempted him to lash out.
Instead, Seungho realizes that NK is indeed with him due to Inhun but mainly because the jackass hurt him again. Nakyum, always an open book, puts his heartbreak and desperation into full display.
Seungho decides to drown NK in pleasure instead of pain.
During this encounter, Seungho is angry and frustrated at Nakyum's mimicry of wanting him while tears flow without end from his face. But again, he chooses to do as Nakyum's wants even following NK's commands for "more" and "harder."
He knows he is being used, he can't stand NK's tears but NK's "Make me forget" drives him. Towards the end, SH becomes a more "willing" participant as he finally pulls NK into a kiss. I don't know if this can be interpreted as him accepting to be what NK needs him to be, or if just wanted NK to be aware of him. It was like SH momentarily was able to let go. It was bittersweet. He wanted NK badly, but not this way.
I think SH is now getting more confirmation that what he feels for Nakyum may be deeper than what he thought and that he should expect to feel a lot of pain due to it. Nakyum may be experiencing lust for SH but it comes with the guilt and shame of having unrequited love for another. NK's unwillingness to see Inhun for what he is, will be difficult to overcome.
I didn't think this encounter was sweet. I thought it was sad.
But it did show a Seungho that's getting the full picture of his chances with Nakyum and hurdles in his way and he seemed to be absorbing this information. What's more, he seems to be willing to take on the challenge.
This chapter showed a lot of growth on Seungho's part.

Thanks a lot for the analysis. It looks to me that NK has a very low self-esteem and has already internalized In Hun's values and mind-set. I guess, in order to change NK's own perception, SH needs to give NK a better education. SH needs to prove In Hun wrong that NK is much better than In Hun. Imagine his reaction, when NK shows more knowledge than In Hun. This would prove In Hun's arrogance

Dude, your thoughts really remind me of a song the author posted once on their twitter, right after posting the korean chapter 40 (when IH mocked NK).
It was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqS1RE-UM28 (Visitor by IU)
And I thought, oh okay, it seems like a song in Nakyum's POV towards InHun. But rereading the lyrics again, and reading translations of chapter 42, it also makes sense if the song was also about Seungho's POV on Nakyum (and that kinda breaks my heart even more).
Loved your analysis! See you on the next raw/s! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Apologies in advance (this got longer than I was hoping for)
I think Nakyum is unaware of things around him. Maybe he is on his head too much in his own little world and that's a luxury for the pampered. He is unaware of his own beauty and he wanders around the world with his guard down. But he doesn't behave like someone how believes he is worthless (ask SH and all the servants that have called him a servant.) He does believe that he is unworthy of someone as great as Inhun...because Inhun has put does thoughts there.
I think his admiration for Inhun just holds too much sway for him and the words that come from Inhun linger like no one else's. The unrequited love aspect keeps him in both despair and hope. And Inhun, already has a habit being psychologically abusive with great success, so that keeps Nakyum under his hold.
The education path might be where the story goes. Early on, Seungho, who is highly educated, read Inhun's poem to Nakyum and quickly noted what poet Inhun tried to imitate and noted how poorly he did, saying it was not worth the comparison.
Seungho has been trying to reach out to Nakyum. I mean, does anyone thinks Seungho still wants the paintings? That day he coerced Nakyum to paint in his room, he seemed more interested in just having Nakyum's presence there. I think he wanted him to just sleep with him (yes - just sleep, mainly due to Seungho's own sleep deprivation) but he saw that Nakyum was aroused and SH was excited by it but also tried to take care of it so SH could keep his promise to NK.
Nakyum, on his part, is noting what Seungho has been doing for him lately and gets some feedback from others above how out of character for SH or how strange for a nobleman to do this and that, thinks about it for two seconds and stores it away. I have this image of Nakyum, waking up in a cold sweat with the epiphany that SH likes him (need a facepalm emoji here).
But I think the education path is the way that Seungho can reach him. It is the only way, through his own eyes, that he would see how Inhun has laughed at him. Nakyum can't seem to face what Inhun is when he is straightforward and shows his cruelty to him. If the kids Inhun was educating are lucky they might just been getting the bare minimum in reading and writing. But Nakyum, who was his pupil for a year, could not read the announcement posted on the street during his outing with SH. Now, I do not know much about the Korean language and its structure, so I can't say whether you can learn all you need to handle it in one year...but I know that Inhun uses HIS education to lord it over others, so I wouldn't put it past him that he is teaching them nothing.
Nakyum values knowledge, highly respects it really. I think that added the first veneer of reverence for Inhun.
Nakyum would be looking for Seungho's intentions in everything he does because of their history together but he is very receptive to learning so if SH handles this right he can slowly chip away at Nakyum's walls and defenses. But first SH has to get settled on his feelings to be able to see this as a path to Nakyum.
The story does appear to have quite a way to go, so this could happen.

No apology needed... I was actually looking forward for your response. You are right that since BNK always points out that he is no servant, when the others are criticizing him, it shows a certain self-confidence but he does think so poorly of himself compared to In Hun's supposed knowledge. That's why I said, he has a poor self-esteem. In Hun's brainwashing was really successful. Korean language as writing is not so difficult, actually it was created in order to have more people able to read. And this reveals how poorly In Hun has done his job. Imagine him getting a higher post, he would do even less for the people, he would even abuse his position for his own interest.
SH was able to discern In Hun's personality and his interaction with BNK very quickly hence I am sure that he will realize how he can reach BNK and change his point of view about In Hun. Remember that once he heard what the servants said about BNK's clothes, he decided to give him better clothes right away. I am quite sure, once he discovers what In Hun told BNK (to be born as a prostitute), he will act on it. However, I feel that SH might decide to teach IH a lesson and not show his cards right away. SH has a way to approach In Hun, he let the teacher believe that In Hun could deceive him (see f. ex. the lies about not running away), that he (SH) had similar thoughts about the education of low-born.

I see. I agree. Nakyum definitely believes he is beneath his Learned Sir based on how highly he values education and how educated and kind he believes Inhun to be. Inhun's character is so disgusting to me.
Thank you for the info on the Korean language. I didn't want to guess on that. And this is why your point on Seungho educating Nakyum makes so much sense. And since Nakyum is so ensnared by Inhun and has such a hard time letting go, I believe it would take the experience of being educated properly for NK to see just how low of a person Inhun is.
Seungho is highly intelligent but he has been wrapped around tumultuous feelings lately. He had his lifestyle upended (though he doesn't seem to miss it). So he has been a bit unaware of the loose ends around him, like how NK's presence is being questioned and causing jealousies among the servants, and how he needs to nip that in the bud asap. I think that now that things are getting clearer for him he will take more far-seeing actions and that Inhun himself will come under his scope.
He knows Inhun is a snake so I am sure SH hasn't dropped his guard on that end. SH always had his number but I think SH gave him a little more credit than he deserved, intelligence-wise, and probably thought Inhun would do his best to keep his Golden Goose happy (I hates him!!). Can't wait to see SH's reaction when he finds out Inhun told NK that he was born to be a prostitute (I didn't know that one - thought he called him a slut which was bad enough...but boy, I had to rewrite this paragraph a couple of times after finding out). SH is now playing a longer game so he will, unfortunately, not behead Inhun as is my want but I will be patient.

I also hate In Hun very much. (︶︿︶)=凸 Although he didn't kill anyone like SH, his words are sharp like knives and we all know the saying: words can kill.
BNK is no servant, which means, he is actually a free man with just low-born origins, BNK can not only receive an education but also be trained to pass the exam.
Furthermore, we shouldn't forget that SH has one helper on his side: his servant who has become quite close to NK too.
Then, I can also imagine that SH will also put IH under surveillance. Remember that he knew which servants had been placed by Jihya and I can imagine that In Hun's request to look into SH's past and Yoon's family won't get unnoticed by SH. In Hun sees in SH a man who lives in debauchery and is somehow stupid, hence he has already imagined that SH will get surprised, once In Hun betrays and abandons him. He thinks that SH relies on him, the moment he succeeds his exam and gets a position in the administration, In Hun will have to return the favor as SH suggested it. However, this deal was never a real thing for SH. If In Hun can betray him, so can SH as well and this shows In Hun's arrogance and stupidity.
By the way, this came just to my mind. SH could help NK to become a official painter... NK is a talented painter, sure the topics would be different but it is clear that NK has talent. Imagine the irony, NK has an official job as painter. This would be the shortest way for NK to prove that In Hun's words are wrong. By the way, did you read my post concerning the theory about SH's suffering?

A very well expressed and accurate review on the chapter !
About me I must be tired about this story, I don't find NK cute or pretty doing all this for sir In Shit, no, he looks to me (particularly) pathetic in this one. Ok, it's understandable that it's his first love and that besides being particularly candide, he's uneducated makes him really vulnerable... but he needs to put his sh*t together and become more active. I like strong characters and I'm tired to be disappointed again and again because all NK ever knows to do is to be pretty and passive...

Inhun would be the type that once in power would be responsible for a lot of deaths either due to negligence or callousness. I can see him as a desk murderer like Eichmann where he feels his hands are clean because he only gave the order. Inhun has proven himself to be the type of person that would be very dangerous if they get a hold of power. He already has abused his position as a teacher.
SH is just more straightforward about it. He needed the servant to be an example to NK, even though he said (at the time) that he wasn't sure which one of them lied. Doesn't make it ok but that's just how I prefer my villains to be. And SH is a villain with a possible redemption arc. The fact that he has done all these with the sanction from his position and while under the hold of whatever mental malaise he suffered from just lets some of us lower our guard and give him a chance.
I agree, SH's servant is very sharp and he cares about NK. He may observe something that between NK and IH or just catch IH in something (hopefully that won't be the time that IH decides to bloody his hands).
IH's arrogance blinds him to dangers. While he is busy looking down on others, and discarding them as he goes he leaves himself open to a lot of dangers. I hope that recklessness bites him in the butt (and the one doing the biting will be SH). I mean, the way he just showed SH who he was upon that first meeting as you noted was the biggest tell. SH's obstacle at the moment is the same person that will be the catalyst to IH's downfall (though personally, IH is the cause of his future downfall, really).
Also the fact that Inhun can't put together that insignificant NK through his "sexual wiles" holds a notoriously promiscuous and jaded lord's interest with enough sway to have Inhun moved into that lord's private residence is in fact proof that NK holds value for that lord. May be that fact actually blew his mind and that's why he lashed out at NK, not just cause he is impatient for his post but because he is being used as the bait to keep the low born compliant.
I discussed the possibility that SH would raise NK up socially awhile back when the raws for chapter 39 first came out. We threw a couple of things around like adoption, NK's possible noble bloodline (don't like this idea simply because it is like NK could only be "worthy" by having noble blood & it takes the merit away from SH for seeing past social classes), etc but the official painter position seems more poetic. Especially in its comparison to IH (hopefully much diminished) circumstances. But also because it would use NK's own talent and merits. Artists depended on patrons for visibility but the rest was really up to them. I like this. You are soooo good.
I haven't seen your post on SH's suffering. I am going to track it down now.

Don't lose hope on NK just yet. I have seen the light but it might just be an on-coming train.
Nakyum was supposed to look pathetic here because it clarified to SH that although he was right that NK was using him, it wasn't for IH's benefit but due to an emotional break caused by him.
I think I am correct in thinking that SH is coming to terms with his feelings for Nakyum and with that cemented he might be able to better formulate an approach for his suit. Whether SH thinks it is love is irrelevant at this point as he only needs to know that he wants NK and craves something he hasn't had before. With this clarity comes the goal and with the goal comes the plan.
Have you had a chance to read BebeBisous33's replies on this thread? They are very enlightening. I thought along a similar vein but more as a side note rather than center stage. It has to do with SH educating NK and possibly elevating him to a court painter. But let's focus on the education side which has lots of possibilities. First, it is hinted throughout the story but the author doesn't hit you over the head with it so it can easily be dismissed or forgotten with all the other flashy moments in the story. Second, education and Nakyum's admiration of it is what sets IH in a pedestal to start with. Here is the Learned Sir showing true nobility by educating the low born when others wouldn't bother and he does all these when the world could be his oyster (in reality IH has no prospects or connections as SH points out therefore his teaching job is all he can hope for). Third, IH is not teaching his students anything - NK can't read, and IH doesn't thnk the low born are worth educating. Fourth, SH knows who IH is, he could tell NK but won't because NK would not trust his word. So finally, SH teaches NK as a way to gain NK's trust and so that he may compare the results, on his own, of SH's teachings to IH's. Finding out that his beloved sir didn't bother to teach him or the other students under his care could be a severed enough blow to knock up Sir from that pedestal.
NK is in a position where he is isolated and sequestered in SH's home. So seeing things from this point of view, NK could be lashing on to IH despite what IH has shown of himself because he has no one else to turn to. He doesn't trust SH, or the kindly servant who is loyal to SH or the other servants that are jealous of or gossip about him. Can't turn to SH's friends. He is trapped and the one person he trusted and loves turned on him. In that light, NK's resistance to drop IH makes more sense.
This theory works for me. And the author appears to want to give us a long, slow road to whatever development we will see between SH & NK and based on the things that took place between them I think this is the best approach.
It also goes with Seungho's cunning nature. The best display of it for me was in Inhun's introduction. The ass thinks he is a genius above everyone and dismissing SH as a stupid perv (just met him too) proceeds to show a side of himself that any twelve year old with manners would be too sophisticated to be caught dead showing to another person. Meanwhile, SH's poker face and encouragements to keep IH digging that hole flew right past him.
I think NK will get there but he needs time to build into that stronger self. He is either too pampered or being an artistic child, too caught up in a fantasy world and missing out on what's happening in the real world around him.

Your comparison with Eichman was so point on. I'm a History teacher specialized in European History. In Hun is far more dangerous than SH because every wrongdoing SH committed was in his household. Besides, the huge difference between SH and IH is that when SH killed the servant, he was doing it within the law, hence he can't be persecuted. We shouldn't forget that this is a different period with a difference law system. What he did was just morally wrong. But that's not the case for In Hun who is actually neglecting his duty as teacher. This indicates that he is not even following orders in reality, as he has his own mind-set.
