So like what is the basis for being determined as an untainted soul? I mean I understand that being afraid of someone who is powerful and has done horrible things is understandable. Also maybe wanting to leave that place for fear of getting the overlord dude angry. But I don't think that by itself that is enough to be determined as tainted...
Being tainted i belivbe is having mainly selfish thoughts, self intrest, greed and so forth. The father started as a clean soul, but because his wife was left behind aka unclean.. he wants to go find her and uses that feeling to try to influence the others to help rise up agains Raul. The problem is that he is to much of a cowerd to call Raul out on his own, so he spent his days "preaching" and pushing blame on to the rest to sow disorce to have them join him = tainthing his soul from said selfish manipulative actions. He is using his selfintrest to try and pull others to do the dirty work for him because he is to much of a cowerd to do it on his own.

Aah I see that makes more sense. He's being selfish by trying to get others to join him in revolting just so he can go find his wife. In making them wanting to also have violent thoughts. It's not the fact that it is reasonable for him to miss his wife, but the fact that he is using other people who are at peace with being there to violently revolt. By using those people he's setting them up as a shield to his violent acts
