In terms of story, character, complexity and such, it receives a low rating for me. However, ten out of ten for amusing me so goddamn much. It may be unintentional but the bottom line is that I enjoyed it.

It's short, straightforward and sweet. It's good for a quick and fluffy read with no drawn out and/or overwhelming drama or angst. 4/5

Say what you want, but in my opinion, Itonaga is the most loveable MC.

SPOILERS

I'm sorry but let me be the anomaly and say this was not great. Don't get we wrong, I do enjoy this series. However, no matter how you look at it, a fifteen year old and a forty year old as a couple is very disturbing. Teacher-student relationships are already controversial due the power dynamics but there are instances where I do not mind them. However, the age gap here is uncomfortably large and to make matters worse one person in the relationship is a minor. Even if the minor made the first move, it is the teacher's job as the adult to turn them away. I really hate how him being attracted to his 15 year old students is being pushed as okay. In real life, this is considered pedophilia. If they have sex, it's rape. If they don't, it's grooming. I do like this author but I do not like how the teacher is handled here.

Besides all that, I'm constantly confused about Sajou's feelings towards his teacher. It leaves me with this uncomfortable feeling. Did he like him? Does he still like him? Sajou and Kusakabe never have an active conversation about this despite Kusakabe clearly being jealous or worried. I was left unsatisfied with how their relationship was left in this story.

The last couple is fine. Generally, I think that massive of an age gap is somewhat unhealthy but the fact of the matter is that they are both consenting adults. However, I cannot really feel bad for the old man when he has obviously engaged in sexual activity with minors in the past. Although I do not think how the mother treated him was fair, I as a parent would be extremely concerned about the relationship, too. If my 18 year old son told me he was dating a 70 year old (I don't know the exact ages so don't quote me on this) I would be very scared. I wouldn't hit or use vulgar language, of course (remember, I'm not defending the mother) but I would be angry.

A positive would be the art. I know there are a lot of people who aren't fans of it but I think it's unique and enjoyable. It creates atmospheric and interesting panels.

Other than that, however, this story was a big NO for me. I'm not attacking the mangaka or the people who did enjoy it. However, I do think people who read yaoi can often be ignorant to these types of issues. A lot of young people are on this site. I promise you that if a naïve twelve year old reads this and thinks it's romantic, they will probably start believing that these kinds of relationships are okay, and I don't think I need to tell you the dangers of that. Think about it like this: from another perspective, this could literally be a crime story about a teacher who takes advantage of young boys and his history in which his teacher engaged in a relationship with him. To me, that would be far more interesting. Regardless, we are all entitled to our own opinion so if this was your all time favourite story ever, then good for you.

finally someone with morals on this app Mr. DM

I really feel like the majority of people who enjoyed this are fujoshis a.k.a the type of people who fetishise gay people. That's the only explanation I can find as to why people are openly supporting whatever the hell this manga is.

Randomly bashing into bl tagged manga and saying only fujoshi enjoy this type of shit.
    even my ass is wheezing!
Moreover I don't get why there are so many hatred after reading some fictional work none of us here are idiot to actually try out pedophilic stuff just because we read some manga.

And someone here searching for moral in an insanely popular website for yaoi stuff...

chile.... just because you're not a pedo irl doesn't mean it's ok to support and romanticize a pedo relationship. it'll NEVER be ok for a full grown man to "fall in love" with a child, a 15 old kid will never be grown enough for a 40 year old person. i read as much yaoi as any other person on this app, but i get to choose what i support and what i don't. period, argue with your mama

Everything the person said above me, and also

Just because you like yaoi or bl it does not make you a fujoshi. A fujoshi is someone who fetishizes gay men or mlm relationships. There is no place where it is morally correct for a relationship like the one in this story. People making it out to be romantic are the people who only like them because they are men, because just a deeper look and you realise Hara Sensei is a fucking creep with major issues.

And I love the "it's just fiction" argument so much. Yes, it is just fiction, but when you start romanticising and sexualising relationships such as this one, it normalizes them. A lot of people reading this shit are young and easily influenced. They will (and I promise you this) think this is okay. Do you understand how dangerous that is?

Not only that, your claim about me searching for morals in a place filled with yaoi comes of as slightly homophobicIt suggests that all yaoi is somehow morally wrong when in reality, if you just scroll pass the rapey shit, you'll find that a LOT of yaoi or bl feature couples with consent. Nothing is inherently wrong because it features gay shit.

Here's my opinion: the mangaka would have to be really stupid to kill off Mika. How many people here alone would stop reading if he died? I, for one, would. He's my and a lot of other people's favourite character. His death would ruin the enjoyment. He's a main character. I cannot comprehend why a mangaka would think it's a good idea to kill him off and therefore do not believe he is dead because I don't think the mangaka is stupid.

But if his death is somehow inevitable, I probably will stop reading. I liked Owari no Seraph for three reasons: vampires, bishounen and Mika and Yuu's relationship (whatever that is). Now, if Mika dies,1/3 of my reasoning for liking the story is gone.

Let's be honest, I think the the kanga's weakness would be it's plot. Granted, I am currently reading Attack on Titan and comparing the two (in terms of plot) isn't even fair. However, in my personal opinion, one of it's strength is it's character. While they may not be overly complex, they are appealing to both male and female audiences which is a huge plus. They've got pretty girls and pretty boys. The bl undertones is what got most people into the anime and probably the manga. I'm not really a fan of queerbaiting but I understand why a mangaka would use it when they try to appeal to a wider audience. Mika and Yuu's relationship attracts people who ship guys but Shinoa brings in people who aren't really into that. The mangaka knows how to attract people. Suddenly taking Mika away would really make a lot of people lose interest in this manga. It's not a bad manga, but taking Mika away would essentially be taking a part of its strength away. Idk man, I just can't imagine why you'd make that decision knowing that the other parts of the story are lacking.

Well this is my excessively long and unwanted review(?)/rant(?)/analysis (?). Honestly, this topic was made for me to reassure myself because if Mika dies I'll be bawling for days tbh.

    larissa.lol July 2, 2020 5:49 pm

    PERIODTTTT
I will stop reading the manga if mika is really dead and nobody can stop me :')

With stories that include a person that sleeps around and a straight guy, the bottom is always the one that sleeps around while the top is the straight guy. It was so refreshing to see the roles reversed as well as the uke being jealous and actually doing something about it while also pining. And the brother was the true hero of this story so

Very, very fast paced but the stories are all sweet.

Liliaoyaoya June 23, 2020 3:27 am

I really hate it when one character keeps pursuing the other while the other does absolutely nothing. Mutual pining is where it's at so this story was not it for me. The art was kinda nice though.

I know! From what I saw, Honjou was kind of leading him on, even though he said other wise. But the story was overall really cute.

This was interesting. That's really all I can say except for please don't waste your time.
