i give props to doc dan for doing the right thing and leaving. even though it was under the guise that he was at fault for the injury (even tho he wasn’t), and not because he was fed up with being treated less than a sex toy, i applaud him for finally putting himself first(kinda) and leaving to take care of grams. we all know dan is a kind, caring, and compassionate person, that always put other people first, but to see him actively walk away even if he might not wanted to, has actually made me proud of him in all these chapters.
ngl i find his character pitiful. he lived a very sad life just to fall in love with an abusive, toxic, cruel, egotistical, and narcissistic asshole. he put up with a lot of things in life because he never experienced love before. hell, he even got assaulted at his old job and quit bc it but constantly put up with jaekyungs verbal and sexual abuse because he had these twisted feelings that what he was feeling was ‘love’. he’s rather uneducated about some things, which i later realized due to his upbringing, so this made me understand WHY he is the way he is. i don’t think he’s ever had a good example of a healthy relationship. after all, his parents left him and he was only with his grandmother and he doesn’t have any older siblings for him to learn after. sharing a space with grams for majority of his life probably sheltered him from things kids are supposed to learn from a two parent household.
ig this is why found him to be very weak this season. ik mingwa has a thing with her bottoms to be doormats, but i really hope that we get a time skip of some substantial time where we see doc dan become more aggressive, firm and most importantly confident and happy in himself. i don’t think we have seen any positive development from dan, we only see him get more and more insecure as the season went on. believe it or not, he was actually unyielding in the beginning and then of course he met jaekyung who basically forced him between a rock and a hard place.
now to talk abt jaekyung. the only word that comes to mind when i think of him is ‘bastard’. he’s seriously so unlikeable and i usually like most semes. anyways, i’m not surprised he ended up alone in the end. he lost his title, got suspended for 3 months, lost majority of his whole team, had no family or friends to visit him in the hospital and most importantly of all, he lost the person who supported him through thick and thin. it really pissed me off when the coach told him that dan resigned and the first thing this asshat thinks of is them having sex and dan not being into it. instead he thought that’s when dan decided to resign instead of reflecting back on his past behaviors and evaluating why dan left. he (and the coaches) never have him take responsibility for his own actions and behavior and this is exactly why majority of the team dropped his ass when he was hospitalized. and because no one keeps him in check, he’s surprised when he finally sees that his actions, does indeed, have consequences despite him usually getting what he wants all the time. you can see it in his face when he comes home to an empty house, he was so shocked see that doc dan wasn’t bluffing, stood on business and left. that had to be a wake up call for him to get his shit together.
